Re: Reading is FUNdamental
Lately I've been reading books already on your list. I'm really enjoying How to Make Money in Stocks. I like learning about all the different strategies in play.
My first stocks & bonds book was one I've listed somewhere else in the forum. Standard and Poor's Guide to Money and Investing. It's a great book for a beginner who is starting from scratch. It covers stocks, options, futures, EFTs and more. I think it gives a newbie just enough info about each one so they can decide what they want to learn more and what isn't their cup of tea.

I read beat the street by peter lynch- It's also on your list on books to read. Great lessons learned for value investing, but I still consider it a great read for anyone just getting started.

Tim,
I just finished reading your book. It was incredibly eerie to see all of the mistakes I've made in trading described
"MTV Real World" style. Your lessons learned will be helpful to newbies I'm sure.
I think that if a budding trader reads your book first and then follows up with "Come into my trading room" (Alexander Elder) and "Trading in the zone" (Mark Douglas), they will gain incredible insight into the 2 most important aspects of trading: psychology and money management.
Anyway, mucho success

Re: Reading is FUNdamental
I just wanted to take this time to thank Tim for his recommendation of the Vanity Fair article, “Bringing Down Bear Sterns. ‘’ It is a brilliant piece of journalism and I highly recommend it to everyone for the vivid and disturbing picture it paints of the investment business. It is a world filled by arrogance, incompetence and duplicity; a breathtaking portrait of a system ruled by sociopaths.
Some years ago, I had an accounting professor who was formerly a stockbroker. She left the profession to become a teacher (for a much lower salary) because she could not endure working with scoundrels whose primary goal was to rip off their clients in order to line their own pockets.
One may conclude that these fat-cats got what they deserved. But it must be kept in mind that the deal put together by the Feds was financed by our tax dollars. Yes, the government will make it appear that justice was served. There will be selective prosecutions. Individuals will be brought down and made an example: beneath this illusion of justice is the same old story of the little guy getting the shaft while the corporate elite play bridge at their country clubs.

A realy realy good book in my trading arsenal is technical analysis explained by pring. At first this book can seem quite plain, boring, and complicated, but this book has everything in it and id a recommended read for anyone.

For technical analysis, "Technical Analysis of Stock Trends" was a good choice for me.
I like Peter Lynch's books as well.
But for me, I think to be as good as Tim, you need psychological discipline more than anything else.
Not like me.
