TIMradio #3: Tom Sosnoff, Founder of Online Broker Thinkorswim
As I sit here waiting for the near-inevitable crack in VRML’s stock price, I thought I’d offer up a podcast for your listening and learning pleasure: You’ve all heard me talk about how much I love and recommend Thinkorswim as a broker–not only do they have the best customer service/software, but they have solid borrows through Penson and most importantly, the people at the company actually try to help customers instead of ripping them off. Maybe that’s why there’s a Chicago-based firm, not NYC.
So for TIMradio podcast #3, I was fortunate to have a fine little chat with the man behind the curtain, Thinkorswim’s founder himself, Tom Sosnoff. Besides being a legendary options trader and frequent industry speaker, he’s one hell of a laidback / good guy…one of the few out there…so I hope I can still be like him when I’m that rich! Somehow I think all that power and money will go to my head…we’ll see.
Interview with ThinkorSwim Founder Tom Sosnoff
PS You’ll hear me say this is the first TIMradio, well, it turned out to be #3, but it’s still #1 in my heart :)
TIMradio #2: Cameron Fous, TheTechnicaltrader.net, Another Successful Microcap Trader Whaaaaat
All right, stop, collaborate and listen, TIMradio is back with a brand new edition…everybody give a warm round of page views to Cameron Fous of TheTechnicalTrader.net who not only plays microcap stocks from the opposite side as me–meaning he buys them on the way up–he’s in Idaho or some weird place like that, he’s younger and a better trader than me (except the last 2 weeks, haha suck on that Fous!)–with his account up 450%+ in 2 years.
TIMRadio #1: Eddy Elfenbein, Mr. CrossingWallStreet.com
Financial blogging has only been around for ages a few years, but already the cream has risen to the top. In my first TIMRadio podcast, I was fortunate enough to be joined by a prime example of that cream, Mr. Eddy Elfenbein, better known by his still-getting-better-by-the-day blog CrossingWallStreet.com. Have a listen and hear us talk about everything from edge-lacking market predictions and Eddy’s old microcap newsletter to my inability to be very outgoing or self-promotional

Sykes’ Saturday Seven: March 22nd, 2008 Edition
Techcrunch might be right about Inspectd.com being fun and addicting, but it sets a very very very very very very very bad example. The problem lay in the fact that pattern recognition is only part of the game, you also have to understand the variables that align to CREATE those patterns. Comparing a 100% one-week stock price jump based on a positive earnings report—meaningful, further strength likely—is very very very very very very very different from the same kind of jump based on two ANALyst upgrades and a newsletter mention—hype, reversal probable. Exemplified by the pic below:

Zecco and FOX Biz Interviews And Some More Glowing Book Reviews
Andrew Horowitz, wealth manager, the godfather of financial podcasting, aka “El Podrino” and author of beginners-must-read-or-else-you’ll-stay-stupid-forever book The Disciplined Investor and I will be talking about our different strategies for this bear market in a Zecco/BlogTalkRadio sponsored podcast fiesta next Thursday, March 20th, 5PM EST. It’s free to listeners—you can even ask us questions live—but there’s also gonna be a televised Pay-Per-View event, check with your local cable company. Tim Sykes bomaye!
Listen to the promo and register below so we can send you annoying reminders the day or two before the event and then harvest your emails FOREVA. (I’m kidding, there will be no harvesting… just reminding)
A Solid Trade Executed During A Live Radio Interview
I didn’t expect any trades today, but when COIN appeared in Barrons recommended by some “guru”, PennyStocking was on (crap company + fluff news + predictable chart pattern = my kind of play)!
If you’ve read this blog over the past few weeks, you know this stock and I don’t get along at all—I’ve had nothing but losses (which I cut quickly) trying to pick its ultimate top. I think it’s a horrible company, but the pumpers are deep and knowledgeable and when they managed to break the stock above a multi-week base between $9 and $12, no matter the hardcore research and anticipation of a double-top at $14, smart were the traders who switched off their emotions and adopted a long bias.

We Have A Winner And Another Interview

Short 100 Shares Solar Fun (Nasdaq: SOLF) at $24.70
This morning, I surprisingly awoke before the market opened, mainly because the University of Arizona was not the party school I expected it to be—at least not during finals week. Oh well, college parties don’t compare to fun stocks like these anyway:
On Gold Diggers and Transparency in the Finance Industry
The Disciplined Investor has a great 30 minute-ish podcast with yours truly, mainly about the lack of transparency in the finance industry. The site is run by a financial planner, Andrew Horowitz, who has also just released a new book by the same name. I’m only about halfway through
=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1196610420&sr=1-1″>The Disciplined Investor (along with nearly a dozen other books, including some particularly good ones like Grace Cheng’s Forex book and a really, really, really long one), but I’ll be adding it to my library of recommended books since it gives a great overview of all the financial planning basics and is unusually understandable.
And, if you want to see my take on gold diggers, def. check out this new Timeout New York article. This important, yet rarely detailed subject, is incredibly relevant in today’s society, especially for those who earn over $200,000 annually. Perhaps even more important than the credit crisis and the housing industry. OK, maybe not more important than housing, but it’s close.
