What Is Tradery.com & Who Created It?
Posted by Timothy Sykes on Fri 8th of May, 2009 08:15:06 AMSince this is two-part post, before detailing Tradery.com, I thought you guys would be interested in a little interview I did with Tradery’s founder, Adrian Michel:
1. What’s your background?
My professional background is in Electrical Engineering and computer Science. I have been very interested in the stock market for over 10 years, and also traded actively for several years.
2. What is Tradery.com?
Tradery.com is a free online service whose users can create and test (historical or real-time) algorithmic and/or discretionary trading systems, which will soon be able to be used in real trading.
The site has two major components: the Trading System Development Environment, where systems are created, debugged and backtested, and the Virtual Accounts component, where trading systems or even discretionary strategies can be tested in real-time without having to risk any actual cash.
The site has also social features such as systems and virtual accounts sharing, and performance comparison.
3. Why did you start it?
During the time I was actively trading, I used several software packages which were adequate, but had frustrating limitations; bugs, low performance or other issues. I then started developing my own tools from scratch, trying to address these problems up front based on my own experience and what I gathered from other users’ feedback.
Once these tools became stable and powerful enough, it was natural to make them accessible on the web, initially just for myself, and later on publicly.
4. Tell us two awesome things you have on your site
This is a tough question, as there are a lot of features that I think are very useful, but here are two that come to mind:
- multi-system capabilities - several trading systems can be easily combined and used as one aggregated system, to achieve diversification by strategy in addition to diversification by symbol. For example, this link points to a multisystem session.
- sessions – users can create and save entire sessions (containing one or more systems, a portfolio of symbols, position sizing and other settings). These sessions can then be restored, emailed or posted on other sites as URLs for one click runs (example), used for automated trading in Virtual Accounts, and soon, for automated trading in real accounts.
5. What do you hope to achieve with Tradery?
I have compiled a very long set of new features and enhancements, the main goal being to make tradery.com into a useful tool to help its users enhance their trading skills and, hopefully, achieve better performance in the market.
To this end, Tradery.com will become an end to end online trading solution, from system development to automated trading in real accounts.
New social features will make it into an active trading community to benefit all its members through the sharing of trading systems, ideas and knowledge.
6. Do you trade and if so, what’s your strategy? If not, what strategy on Tradery.com would you most likely follow?
I am not currently actively trading as my main focus is on developing and maintaining the Tradery.com service. When I was trading, I achieved good results using several variants of the dip buyer family. (this link will run a tradery session for one of the DipBuyer systems). In fact I intend to continue my trading activities where I left off as soon as the automated real trading component becomes functional.
