What Do I Say To Emails & Comments Like These?

I love getting emails like this:

Hey I just had this revelation that I need to buy your instructional DVD. Basically this whole time I have been holding off. I consider myself very bright and so naturally I feel like I can teach myself all there is to know about fundamentals/technical analysis off websites like investopedia and elitetrader.

Well let’s see how I’ve fared:

I have lost 1500$ net from trades I’ve made on my own. I thought these were solid trades–I have bollinger bands/triple exponential smoothed moving average/three M.A. bars/RSI/indicators. Despite occasional mishaps due to naivety / greed / excitement these should have been good trades.

I have gained roughly 700$ net in Timalert trades.

Conclusion: this market is not rational, no longer adheres with fundamentals. The S&P P/E is about 100x for christ sake. This is not a game of numbers but of psychology. Short stocking is just a gigantic symbol of self-interest, and it can’t be interpreted through rationality, but by historic behavior. If anything, an economic downturn like this only AMPLIFIES the fear and greed that is the impetus for these pump and dumps, pie in the sky, IRA-robbing lottery tickets. You got the goods. I need the goods.

E.R., thanks for the email, let me just say a few things in response:

1. All those advanced technicals, in my experience, mean exactly zilch. zip. zero. Snakeoil salesmen’s way of making the simple appear complex and requiring their services, products, management.

2. Don’t draw any market conclusions until you’ve made $1 million+ from thousands, until then, your stats are about as useful as trying to find patterns in a bowl of Cheerios.

3. The market is rational, you just need to learn to focus on the proper variables and each asset class has its own variables. I’ll probly have to come out with metrics like “the volatility-manipulation-hype ratio” to help people better understand this.

4. my instructional dvds basically just show what historical patterns on which I focus (PennyStocking & PennyStocking Part Deux), trading psychology & risk management (TIMraw & ShortStocking) & most importantly, how I do my daily research and routine (TIMfundamentals)…they can all be paid for by one decent trade and the cool thing is their knowledge and lessons will help you forever! You see more details on all of em HERE

5. Investopedia is good for basics and EliteTrader is a circus filled with some of the worst traders in the world who can be great teachers if you go against everything they say. Focus on learning from traders who have demonstrated massive gains in the past & show their verified trading results. Trust no one in this game as people are con artists, liars, cheats, marketers and any other form of degenerate commonly found inside scummy places like strip clubs & OTB betting parlors.

6. You sound motivated, but most others aren’t–you can def. learn from my 1500 blog posts and 30 hours of content in my instructional DVDs, but don’t bother trying to get others too, most people are lazy and prefer picks given to them. For all your lazy friends, join my TIMaffiliate program (where you get 25% commissions on any sales) & promote TIMalerts…here are the testimonials from yesterday alone for this $1/day product, feel free to reblog/cop & paste, my products sell only because every day anybody can see people are making $! (tough to lose much when #1 rule is cut losses quickly and more importantly, when I’ve been right 70-80-90% of the time):
