Who Is the Real Lenny Dykstra?
Posted by Timothy Sykes on Wed 18th of Mar, 2009 08:15:09 AMThis post is in response to too many emails I got on the subject, grow up people…
Having met him once and read feature articles by such honorable media outlets as Page Six & Gawker (who, as I discovered while looking for an article link, removed that great post from the other day whose title was something like “Lenny Dykstra isn’t a racist, he put 3 spearchuckers on the cover of his magazine”) & a lengthy article by a surely unbiased bitter ex-employee in GQ, I feel can write knowledgeably on the subject.
1. Dykstra says the GQ article is all lies, but says he won’t go in the dirt to fight his former photo editor…uhhhh Lenny, you were a baseball player with the nickname “Nails”…unless you go back to the dirt which you’re so very used to, meaning writing your own take and/or suing that dude, you’re the one lying. Busted.
2. The experts seem dubious as to Dykstra’s amazing options picking abilities, see a technical review HERE and a funny review by a master options blogger HERE.
3. The big debate is to whether or not Nail’s has got the big money he claims, judging by everyone suing him for somewhat petty amounts, he either does and stiffs everyone or he doesn’t.
4. Like similarly failed publisher Randall Lane of Trader Monthly (they even tried working together until that partnership ended up in court & gossip pages!), Dykstra makes huuuuge enemies with his employees, not very smart at all.
5. Dykstra works for TheStreet.com, a failing former media powerhouse itself whose only real claim is that they can bundle sooo much useless content from sooooo many people with horrific track records. Somehow these bozos, including Dykstra, have missed out on the whole blogging/transparency thing that can get one credibility. What a waste–they still have $80 million in cash, methinks they should use it to revamp their entire business model.
6. Did he do steroids and is he racist? Sure, why not…we know Dykstra’s a brash talking guy, but now the gossip people have gotten involved so everything will ALWAYS be twisted around to make him appear worse than he really is. That’s how gossip workers work.
7. In the end, Dykstra is little different than controversial Cramer, with whom he works, and as long as he doesn’t make too many obvious bad calls, he’ll continue earning high six figures to low seven figures off all the content he creates, controversy will continue to follow him.
Now, let’s get back to something a little more useful, shall we?
