Calling All Tulane Students, Faculty & Alumni: You’re All Eligible For My Scholarship, Applications Are Due April 17th

Posted by Timothy Sykes on Tue 17th of Mar, 2009 08:05:30 AM

That’s right, my scholarship ain’t like any others–forget about academia and athletica, I reward passion…of any kind…pas award winners have included karate champions, sculptors, a girl who builds wooden boats from scratch and teaches inner-city kids her art and last year a girl who built a house in the middle of nowhere that exists solely off the nature around her

Oh yes, it’s that time of year again…join my award’s Facebook group for more updates (add me as a friend and join my Facebook Group or the LiveStock Facebook group while you’re at it!) unfortunately, Tulane’s endowment took a hit this year, apparently, so I’ve been told the award this year is $500 instead of the usual $750…

From the Tulane site, below is how to throw your name in the pot, basically you just have to write a kick ass 1-2 page letter as to why you’re so passionate and why $500 is gonna help you become even more passionate:

The Timothy Sykes Daytrading Award for the Talented

This unique award was established six years ago by Timothy Sykes (Tulane College ’03) to recognize and nurture talented individuals whose abilities and accomplishments may not be in traditional areas of endeavor. There are many ways to be “successful” in today’s society and this award acknowledges young people with unique interests and passions. This does not preclude from consideration those with significant demonstrated success in the classroom or on the playing field - it simply seeks to broaden the definition of accomplishment in a university environment.

A candidate may self-nominate or be nominated by another member of the Tulane community by means of a statement (minimum 2 pages) that describes the individual’s talent/potential and supports that description with a listing of his/her related accomplishments or an example of the applicant’s work. Nominations are open to any member of the Tulane community – student, faculty, staff or young alumni. Applications for the award will be reviewed by a committee appointed by President Cowen.

Completed nominations are due by April 17, 2009 and may be submitted by
e-mail (timsykesaward@tulane.edu) or by mailing them to Tulane University Office of Development, 6823 St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70118. Please call 504.314.7633 with any questions.
