A Summary Of My 7 Most Recent Failures
Posted by Timothy Sykes on Tue 20th of Jan, 2009 03:25:35 PMConsidering the obvious success of my TIMtrades–up 200% in the last year or so, every single trade detailed, TIMalerts–click the link and see subscriber testimonials galore and my instructional trading DVDs–detailing the strategies behind how my subscribers and I do so well, you might be surprised at how much I’ve screwed up lately (and no I’m not afraid to admit/detail it because I’m not afraid of failure, I’m afraid of failing to learn from my mistakes aka the right way to think as a trader/businessperson, it’s disgusting more don’t have blog posts like this):
1. A few months ago, we spent $500 coding TIMbucks, which was a reader loyalty program to get them to post/interact more on the site by bribing them with little trinkets. It bombed, we got one sponsor which covered half our costs, but they never came through with the prizes for the readers. Pathetic. The good news is my readers don’t care about little free crap–probly because they’re not desperate/poor tech geeks, aka 24 million useless Digg readers–they want solid actionable information.
2. My February 21st seminar with Brian Shannon, we only got a few signups, hardly worth our precious time…especially not worth all the negativity posted on my site from those envious of Shannon’s blog’s success (has disallows comments because he’s been in the business long enough to know what degenerates comprise the vast majority of this OTB-like “industry”–yeah you know those fat/ugly/sketchy guys walking into those crummie OTB storefronts, that’s the failure-at-life-trading/Elitetrader crowd)…too bad that most degenerates procrastinate and wait until the last minute/day to signup to get deals–the most popular time at my booth at the Traders Expo was the last 2 hours as degenerates walked around scavenging for free/discounted stuff that I wouldn’t want to ship back (one guy even asked if the package of 4 Sharpies on our table that I used for writing on posterboards for were free to take?!?!?!?!)–because my Vegas signups started slow too and I only got to nearly 20 in the last few days…oh well, I guess I’ll only meet a few degenerates this Spring for 1-on-1 coaching instead of a whole group of degenerates at once…Shannon’s lucky that he’ll just go skiing instead.
3. I wanted to be on the list of the 25 most valuable blogs, but it came out when I was smalltime and unfortunately, it’s based on useless Digg-type readers, not profits so even though I’m more profitable than more than half on this list–yes, the blogosophere might be good at new information/communications, but they have the business sense of Tori Spelling (an eerily exact comparison, both lets millions of funds go to waste, daddy vs. VCs)
4. I wasn’t #1 on Covestor for a few days a few months ago, breaking my Federer-like dominance…but then it went back to my usual domination of all those sissy wannabe traders/investors doing stuff like “I bought GOOG because I like their search engine” and “AMZN has a great website”…good thing I’m better than Federer at my chosen niche–not that I’m that great, just that most people SUCK, probly because there’s so few/no great coaches out there–and I’m not as weird!
5. After a string of ridiculous back-back-back months last Fall, I made a few bad trades in a row for TIMalert subscribers in December…some quit, some whined…welcome to trading bitches! I’ll ALWAYS have bad picks every now and then, the key is cutting losses quickly…look at all my trades and learnnnnn how to do that.
6. I couldn’t get my girlfriend invited to a friend’s wedding, no matter how much I begged…apparently the bride’s family paid and so my friend was limited in how many people he could have…isn’t that weird? A whole bunch of former Semester At Sears there without our better halves…strangeeeeeee.
7. I wasn’t invited to more than a dozen holiday parties…sad, maybe I’m becoming too cynical for my own good? For what does it profit a man to do more good and make more $ than the majority of the horrible-at-business-more-like-hippies-blogosophere, but lose his holiday party invites?
