Chanukah Present #2: An Interview With Phil Pearlman

Posted by Timothy Sykes on Tue 23rd of Dec, 2008 07:40:11 AM

A follow up to my 1st interview with a financial Jew who you should know about, here’s some wise words from ex-hedge fund manager Dr. Phil Pearlman, best described by Howard Lindzon in this post:

head shot a Chanukah Present #2: An Interview With Phil Pearlman

1. What is your favorite chanukah memory of years past?

Last year I was lighting the candles with my family and my oldest who was 18 months at the time was just loving lighting the candles…I know it’s silly, but it was great stuff for me.

2. What is your favorite trade/investment of years past?

Hmm. There have been a few but I think one of my favs of all time was getting long $CRDN just after 09/11 at a split adjusted $6 and change and selling in 2007 at $74…I nailed it, held on patiently through the volatility for 5 plus years and then sold near the top before last year before the sotck collapsed…I wrote a ton of covered calls along the way to boot…

3. What are your plans for chanukah this year?

Family, hanging with the wife and kids…

4. What is your stock market outlook for 2009?

I think we will continue to see volatility and the re-emergence of inflation worries and inflation.

5. Do you have a tip/lesson for investors/traders to follow in 2009?

Stay light and patient and wait for your trend and your trade…it will happen at some point. I would not be surprised to see the energy trade come back in a big way but the volatility will be even more pronounced than we saw there from $40 to $147 and then back to $40 if you can believe it…severe supply discontinuities will freak people out.

Stay tuned for the next interview with THIS GUY
