How One Of My Most Successful Students With A Small Account Made $3,200 In A Few Days

Remember successful PennyStocker Adam N. and this awesome post?

Well, he’s back with another great post about he’s just made over $3,000 on piece of crap carcass of a company SRZ, and instead of just playing it from the short side, he went long…something I’ve never been able to do very well.

So, let’s all learn from Adam:

I recently banked over $3000 playing SRZ from the long side and then
from the short side. Here’s a quick account on how I was able to pull
this off.

sunrise How One Of My Most Successful Students With A Small Account Made $3,200 In A Few Days

On Friday (12/05/08) SRZ opened up nearly 30% above its
closing price on a positive PR. I was alerted to this stock from Muddy
over at Investors Live chat room, which always has a ton of great
momentum plays. I didn’t jump in right away because stocks that gap up
at open often come screaming back down. But, later that morning the
stock began to climb again and with volume, and broke out to new highs
on the day, which is when I pulled the trigger to go long right around
$1 (even dollar marks make great entry/exit points). The stock held at
$1 all day so I decided to hold it over the weekend (always risky though
when playing w/ a small account) and sure enough it gapped up that
Monday morning where I covered around $1.30. The stock then continued
to climb later that day so I jumped back in long at $1.32 and covered
later that day at $1.50 (just taking gains as they came). In all, I
took a $2200 profit playing SRZ on the long side.

The next day, SRZ continued its climb all the way up to $2.64, at this
point I was done playing it long knowing full well it was waaaay over
bought and could drop back down to earth any minute, so I eagerly waited
for it to back off its high on the day. When the stock jumped to $2
early in the morning I jumped in short thinking that $2 was a natural
resistance point, but soon learned I was dead wrong as the stock began
its ascent up to its high at $2.64. Thankfully I took my losses quickly
at around $2.18 for a $400 loss (should have gotten out much sooner than
this, but I was stubborn, lesson learned). I could have saved myself
this loss if I had just waited for the first red day. Forgetting how
important it is to wait for red cost me some of my prior profits.

Then came Wednesday (12/10/2008), redemption day for me. SRZ gapped up
quickly at the open, but then came screaming back down and was red on
the day (also a muddy alert). Without hesitation this time around I
jumped in short around $2.06 (probably better to have waited to under
$2, but the stock was dropping fast). I later covered half my position
at $1.75, taking $730 in profit off the table, and let the rest ride
overnight as the stock exhibited a nice breakdown from having nearly
quadrupled from its run-up. The following day SRZ had a morning tank, a
small spike up, and then a nice all day fade where I covered when it
bottomed around $1.51 for another $710 in profits.

All in all, I banked $3240 playing both long and short on this mini supernova (a pattern detailed in my PennyStocking DVD.)

  • If your able to limit your risk then a trade like this could be very profitable. I imagine you would need to watch it closely and adjust your stops as the stock moves.
  • CashisKing
got in at .70 premarket friday 7100 shares, sold tuesday 2.4 for just over 12k profit.
  • GaryBurleson
Very Good Adam, I feel you creeping up behind me very quickly on Covestor hmmm I must perform better while I think of ways to annihilate you in the near future. Good JOB! We learn from the best.
  • Muddy
    Nice job Adam..

My trades on SRZ since the alert..

    12/5 long average .90 to 1.12 .....3/$3500 trades

Right now SRZ is the cash cow to anyone who knows how to daytrade...obviously you do it well!

    Muddy and AdamN,
    Congrats on banking on SRZ!

Is SRZ still viable for this coming week?
  • snoop, we had some discounts 2 weeks ago, dont be so poor. that said, later this week we'll have a special for timukah discount for all timalert members only
  • younggunz
Pretty soon you won't be able to say he has a small account. unless you consider everyone under 6 figures as being small.
  • AdamN
Ha Gunz, in no way am I close to 6 figures, I'm still limited by PDT.
  • Dar
    Adam--
Since you're still limited by PDT, is that why you held over the weekend?

Also, are you using multiple accounts to circumvent the PDT?

    (Nice "gravatar"--Go, Steelers!)
  • AdamN
Dar, I didn't hold over the weekend because of the PDT rule. I held because the stock closed strong on the day at $1 from $0.50. Holding any penny stock overnight or over the weekend is always risky, but I just played the chart on this one.

I'm only using one account currently at IB to trade with. Since I'm limited by the PDT, I only look for truly worthy plays for shorting or going long and those usually come about only once or twice per week.
  • and if u cant afford a few hundrd bucks, u shouldnt be trading my kinds of stocks, focus on pennysotcking and pennystocking 2, shortstocking is more of an overall guide to short selling, not my ideal trading strategy
  • restocking is a bitch, we gotta get our dvd guy to retest all the dvds before we send em out again...good thing its only happened a few times...you guys are such whiny little babies, u forget the tremendous values my dvds are compared to the $2-$10k dvds offered by those who dont even show their own trades/track records, go deal with a snakeoil salesman if u dont like my stuff, i dont mind, eventually u'll come back, just poorer for it
  • nobody
AdamN, is there any way for us to view your trades in real time? Or do you post your trades in any of the chat rooms?
Since you are so successful maybe you can provide "AdamNAlerts" under Tim alerts.
  • AdamN
I have a profile on Covestor that tracks my trades you can follow.

    http://www.covestor.com/mbr/adamn

But since I recently switched to IB, my trades have to be manually updated rather than in real-time. I usually post my trades over at the Timalerts website and sometimes at Investors Live chatroom when I get good alert there.

I'm all for real-time alerts, but I doubt Tim wants to cut me in on that action, he's doing well enough.
  • nobody
Do you still go into the timalert chat room?

Maybe you can post your trades where when you make them. The other subscribers will really find this helpful.

Tim's trades are definitely great. I am not suggesting that you cut him or anything. Just that you might trade differently some times from him, so other subscribers can learn from you as well by following your alerts.
  • Dar
    Adam--

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like I'll be starting out the same way--holding onto my precious trades for 1-2 days each week to avoid the PDT and paper-trading in between to learn the system and (hopefully) build up some real capital.

Keep up the great work--I hope you'll keep us updated on your progress.
  • anonymous
Dar, note that Tim doesn't trade every single day. He was also restricted by PDT initially.
You just have to either spread out your day-trade plays, or just hold overnight.
  • Night Runner
This is a fine story and all, but it's not worth a damn unless you have prime access to this mysterious individual only known as muddy. How would one spot such a stock? And if one can't spot a stock like that (which seems to be apparent in the author's case), it would seem entirely asinine to follow stock tips of a stranger from a chat room.
  • night runner, thats why u pick up one of my dvds and learn the strategy yourself! it aint rocket science
  • Muddy
Yeah Night Runner...real "mysterious" I am.
Have run a chat for 5 years.
    Traded over 45 years.
    Have 2 blogs I run.
    Been interviewed here.... http://www.traderinterviews.com/programs/permal...
Can be found here everyday... http://www.investorslive.com/chat/
Posted over 5 years on (do a search)....http://forums.stockfetcher.com
Started and maintain the offical Stockfetcher website blog .... http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/StockFetc...

    do some research next time
  • God! I really wish to have $2000 in my pocket, but i 'm too scared because playing with penny stock market is more like a gamble. I don know how much my luck..
  • takumi, its not luck and its not a gamble if you're willing to cut losses quickly...no other market niche offers such predictability
