Why Brian Shannon Of AlphaTrends Is A Great Trading Teacher For Real Stocks

A ton of people read Brian Shannon’s excellent day trading blog, AlphaTrends.net, and considering we’re teaming up together for our joint February 21st, 2009 full day seminar (Details will be up soon, but for now contact me if you’re interested), people are curious about his trading gains.
Even though he’s more into education than I am, as in he doesn’t have to show his results, you’ll either make $ following his thinking and you’ll continue reading his blog or you won’t and you’ll stop reading–which is why he has soooo many readers and is the #1 most subscribed financial video guy on Youtube with 7,000+ subscribers (very nice compared to my little 210 (probly because I don’t do free videos each and every day, my taste skews towards making videos like this one) he’s posted a nice summary of his recent trades:
He even posted the breakdown of how he made $1,000 the other day in this post.
So don’t nag him about being fully transparent, nag me instead! I’m the one with a chip on my shoulder, this guy just banks and you are lucky enough to get his videos for free…
After all, he trades liquid/popular stocks so his lessons can really make you bank…I’m the one dealing with sketchy, manipulated, hyped up Penny Stocks and earning less than half of what this guy makes (trading-wise at least…hahaha yeah Shannon, time for some instructional DVDs, you know you wanna!) while making four times as much noise.
Early next year you’ll see how our strategies differ and yet somehow we also have much in common…probly because we’re both part of the very small group of consistently profitable traders.

Hey Tim, You are just a wealth of information! It’s just awesome what you are doing !I am interested in learning how to trade from you since I haven’t had much luck investing myself . I bought some large cap stocks and now they are down really bad,more than 50%. Because I have lost money, I only have a small account to work with so I am really glad to have found out about your PennyStocking strategies. Now I would like to learn to trade. I have already requested your book from family as a christmas present but i am also interseted in knowing about “timalerts”. To use your system do i have to be actively trading full time? I am currently in school right now and therefore don’t always have access to a computer throughout the day. Do you ship internationally ( to vancouver,bc canada ) or does this only apply in the US only ? Thank you and keep up the great work!
I’ve been keeping similar stats on my trades…although not nearly as detailed as him….I like some of his ideas…keeping stats by time of day, etc….so you know exactly where you seem to be best at
And off-topic…what ever happened to Timbucks?
Timbucks are gone but the top 3-5 were supposed to get ipod shuffles. Last time I asked Reebles hadn’t sent them to Tim yet.
Hmm, now I’m really curious what an average day trader makes…I’m a newbie to trading this year and am at 20% from an initial 20k. Is that a good figure?
20% up…sorry, that previous note looked like I lost 20%.
Hey Tim.
Sometimes I noticed you have 15-20 stocks on your watchlist. When the market opens, do you only monitor say 1-3 that are most ideal for that day?

If you keep this figure for the rest of the year, you’re at least in the top 10% of traders. 90% lose money. I’m down about 15% in TWO WEEKS, and that’s after watching PennyStocking, Tim says only dumb people can lose money, at least like I did after watching his DVD’s, but hey - I still have to watch PennyStocking Deux & ShortStocking before qualifying :)

Brian is the man! I bought his book a while ago and it doesnt leave my desk, it’s a great work of reference on technical analisys. Brian and Tim that will give an explosive combination :-)
yup, just about narrowing down and trading the best plays
sucker, i dont deal with real companies, lots of traders are there for that, shannon is one of the better ones…u sad sad finance freaks cant understand this isnt a competition, LOTS OF TRADERS CAN OUTRADE ME…piece of crap magazine trader monthly’s corrupted a lot of minds, gotta fix that over time
