7 Candidates Running For Today’s Short Selling Presidency

Yes, there will be LiveStock tomorrow from 1-2PM and yes, this was sent out early AM to TIMalert subscribers (I covered APWR at $5.48, pathetic gain, but it puts me up 150% in the last year now!!) of course:

Some decent plays, thrwarted by some of the usual obstacles, remember not to try to force something that isn’t there…

APWR was the TIMalert from yesterday, shorted 1700 shares at $5.54…while I knew it wasn’t an ideal play or execution price (never good when you immediately know that), I thought I could get 50 cents/share of downside as I explained in that TIMalert, very much based on the overall market/oil/pattern.

Well, I was right about the market as the Dow tanked 200+ points into the close, but considering the variables, this was a weak PennyStocking play and its 30 cent+ spike into the close—along with lots of other speculative names like YGE—is why I hate playing non-pump and dumps. At $5.76, I’m down $350ish, totally acceptable, but anything approaching or over $6/share would be unacceptable. I will cut my losses quickly even if the stock is in a strong strong downtrend so the more days I can hold it, the better my odds are. But I’m definitely not going for home runs in this market environment

TIBB had a low-volume late day run up of $2+, will try to reserve shares to short today for sure!

DTG was up 150%, but it’s now an earnings play…the chart is an overwhelming downtrend so I still might short, but only if all the early shorts get squeezed.

QELP finally dropped, but I couldn’t find any shares to short

CNLG dropped predictably, but there weren’t any shares to short at TOS. Supposedly IB had plenty, I’ll be opening an account there soon.

GRRF also dropped 20%+ predictably, but it gapped down offering no opportunity to really short.

SCON also dropped 20% predictably, but there weren’t any shares to short at TOS. Supposedly IB had plenty, I’ll be opening an account there soon.

IB usually has shares to short, and if it doesn't you will get a message saying that your order is held until the shares are available. Sometimes it takes quite a while before they become available.

Also, IB's customer service is not that great. You get what you pay for, considering the low commissions.

    Tim,

APWR back down. Good job, my man. When you going to cover?

    Tim
  • already covered my APWr, i'm a wimp, but many TIMalert subscribers are really bankingggggg
  • Tim P
Sweeeeet. Did you see a specific signal that said 'cover!' or do you just have a natural aversion for holding a short longer than a day....?

Stupid question here but what brokerage is IB? Are they as bad as Scottrade?
  • notesguy88
I sorta wimped out too but at least I made $75. Definitely better than taking a loss! :-)
  • Tim,
Why are your latest blog posts truncated when read via RSS feed on Google Reader? Is this part of the new design? Shows a message - "Visit TimothySykes.com to read full article with comments"

    Canasta,

I think IB is Interactive Brokers. Known for a real minimalist set-up with really low commissions.

    Tim
  • I held on down to $5.30 - gained 4% for $135 profit

3,000 in trading gains for the month, 5 TRILLION IN DVD sales. How pathetic to brag about that.
  • lmsmith
YGE- you actually bought this stock? wow, I am still short from Monday's 6.27- I have been watching this for the past two weeks...does not hold gains...I will cover at the end of the day....... If it goes under $4 I may play for the eventual bounce- as for now, stay away.
  • i agree it is pathetic that there's more $ in teaching others, but such is pennystocking life. deal with it, i have
  • lmsmith
ohh, and OCCXD-- Sill holding short
  • new TIMalert is out!

Great strategy, buy the bloody DVD !! The strategy works well when you have discipline and fallow the concept of cutting your loss. Everything is explain in the two DVD so buy dammit.

That being said, it's not scalable (but for heaven sake most of you will never go the HF or FOF road so that it's not the issue)

However, for the few of us that are/will go that road after 5 MM$ we should encounter some restriction with share borrowing or at the least develop a tail on the position.

Great work TIM, buy the DVD for heaven sake buy it

    regards

still log on issues for alerts site ??

Tim I think this trade is not a good one. Seems to me your going against your rules. a)your following a pundit (whose motives you don't know) b)technically, there's no basis for this trade...in fact, technicals argue moreso for long ... i see bollinger band support @ 22 and i see head and shoulders failure which tends to indicate heavy crowd participation (they were selling....and like you always say...crowd is wrong...90% of them lose). And it's half-way between year low and year high...who goes short in that zone? "Citron", whoever that is, probly went short at 30 or so, foreseeing the head-adn-shoulders failure pattern. You should've shortded DTG this morn instead.
  • Davey
i still cant access timalerts.com, login issues
  • it was a fine trade given citron's past performance...got squeezed out but he sent out the email alert at 3:53pm which helped everyone except me...lol

i'd never short DTg, its an earnings move..just my rules
  • Steven
Tim, the proper trade for this stock would be to short when it fails 20, in which case it could rip all the way down to 15. I reiterate...not a great trade, people....caveat.
  • Jorge Morales
Hey Tim, I hope you had MPEL on your radar -20% crushing it baby!!!
  • Murph12
Bummer for covering right before it tanked...
  • forget taking out 20, technical analysis doesnt matter here, its a fraud alert baby...wish i'd known he was gonna send out the email at 3:53pm though, that's just sneaky
  • Steven
So, basically you are saying it was good for a quick scalp .. which doesn't help much as if anyone else is having the same experience as me then they're not getting alerts in time
  • Steven
I'm guessing that most people who buy into these fraud stocks are not informed enough to know of this fraud-alert person//group "Citron" ...thus many will still be holding...many more will see this dip as buy opportunity
  • no, i never intended on scalping it, citorn has the clout, i was going for a multi-$/share drop by tomorrow morning
  • meh
How do you limit losses? If I want to replicate your trade, but might not be available all day at the computer, what should I do?
  • Joker
    stop-loss

    Stop loss at what levels?
