12 Stocks, Most Of Which Are Potentially Great For Short Selling

Posted by timothysykes on Thu 14th of Aug, 2008 09:23:00 AM

RODM I wrote about yesterday HERE, true scumbags…doesn’t mean it’s gonna be a great short though…watchlist only

APII I also wrote about HERE last night and I’m short 2,000 shares overnight at $3.30. Pathetic earnings mixed with business acquisition will make for an interesting day today. Really could be anything even if pattern favors more downside…probable morning dump…methinks chart could ultimately resemble GETG, but that’s just one possibility.

FPP & PDO are oldies but goodies, now spiking, trying to find their former glory…never gonna happen, my guess is the spike will continue on and off, but ultimately fail just like SOLF, ASTI, CSIQ-type energy plays

MNLU might be a spammer, but it’s close to breaking out on crappy volume…I don’t trust it so I’m not jumping at buying it although possibly will

USS was too quick a dropper and all my attention was focused on APII, oh well, morning panics do happen, glad some of you got in on it

VRAZ also tanked nicely, no TIMalert was responsible, just the pattern I usually profit working beautifully, could tank more, but it’s already down 20% so its riskier, doubtful for me, especially since it’s a tough borrow

IEHC looks like a spammer, but it’s really an earnings play, sketchyyyyy still

LNG is an earnings spiker too, gotta go up more to interest me

URRE is the EXACT same setup/variables/chart as LNG, again, I want early shorts to be squeezed before I get in there, that way my risk is reduced

CHME is an earnings spiker, fine, let it, again, just on my watchlist for further spikage before I try to short

SWTX is the last earnings spiker, put it on your watchlist in case it goes up too much, not enough downside now

    Tim - congrats on $25k!!!
  • covered APII too soon, doesnt matter, tough to go wrong when the stock u shorted is down 25% in 5 minutes! yeahhh baby!!! now accepting TIMAlert lifetime memberships
  • A
Great job Timmay! What price did you cover?
  • Congrats Tim on hitting the $25,000 mark...now its on!
  • covered waaay too early at $2.66, too excited to get over $25k...and so much for TIMalerts influence, idiot cry babies exaggerate everything, i sent out the alert that i covered and the stock dropped another 30 cents
  • marketGirl
it would probably be your life time not the subscribers...lol...take care of yourself timmy and buy some life insurance for your subscriber timmy
  • $25,716 to be exact now
  • way to go dude
  • younggunz
yeah I hope no one went long when they heard tim covered. wouldn't be looking too good right now.
  • Reaper
You serious about the lifetime memberships, Tim? I'd pay $1k for one.

I closed my last APII shorts. Total profit: $3267.55.

BTW, after my profit in APII my total NET profit from trading your system (both on my own and following TimAlerts) for 2 months has been $15,342.87. My largest position was $55k in USS; every other position was under half that size. My weighted average profit per trade has been 4.57%.
  • ha, i am serious, lifetime membership would probly be closer to $5k though...not even sure how it'd work cuz i'm sure the newsletter would evolve into something else
  • Reaper
Lifetime memberships are a headache you don't need. They make little sense with a one-man operation. They only make sense for things like fitness clubs that are sure to stay around (even then, if they go BK, bye-bye membership dues!).

Anyway, I'll up my offer to $2k for your first lifetime membership. Come on, you know you want to brag about selling one!
  • total_keops
lol, 5000$ @ 30$ per month is 13 years to get ITM. Who would take such a gamble?
You guys had balls to short that APII thing into earnings.
    Respect.
  • UVSE just had some production news....volume has picked up
  • YngvaiMalmsteve
***so much for TIMalerts influence, idiot cry babies exaggerate everything, i sent out the alert that i covered and the stock dropped another 30 cents****

No shit it continued to drop...why would all the subscribers cover right when you did? Everybody knows you usually cover too early. It's not like TIMAlerts is going to affect every single stock you play or every situation. The point was, under certain situations, TIMAlerts certainly will affect the price action and change the variables. I did some rough number crunching to show that even 20-40 subscribers entering an illiquid stock at the same time could affect the price by 8%.
  • YngvaiMalmsteve
Tried to find MNLU shares to borrow in case it finished as a red candle today but nothing available
  • LOL yngvai, so my subscribers know i'm good at entering but bad at exiting? c'mon dude, most are retards/poor people/watchers...and tanyway thats why i stay away from illiquid stocks, 500k daily volume is NOT illiquid
  • neil2
way to go on reaching 25k!!!!
  • Nirav Mehta
Take away this guys tim bucks and give them to me. He's not a believer.
  • YngvaiMalmsteve
I don't care if it was 500K daily volume. That's total volume for the day. That doesn't mean the stock is liquid all through the day. Numerous times yesterday the stock was very illiquid yesterday judging by the big bid/ask spread it had.
  • UVSE is breaking out!!!
  • How high will she go!!!!
  • LOL yngvai, yes, welcome to the gutter
  • YngvaiMalmsteve
Nice heads up, Gemini. Would've loved to play that breakout but I'm out of daytrades and can't risk entering a position in the middle of the day and potentially have to exit the same day if it doesn't go my way.

Did make a nice quick 10% overnight gain on RDN though
  • MARC
Im still long UVSE. go baby
  • SamuraiRat
Tim, gratz on 25k you fucker, I'm jealous. Now you can trade even crazier.

I'm not retarded or poor, just lazy. Your nitch isn't rocket science either just takes a little experience to get used to being in the gutter.
  • spazz
Gemini where did you find out that news so quickly??
  • SamuraiRat
YngvaiMalmsteve is you dont mind me asking, what made you buy RDN before the close yesterday, was a great trade.
  • YngvaiMalmsteve
RDN is a big day-ranger. Has the potential to move 10% or more in a day. It had heavy volume in the last 30 minutes of trading yesterday, and broke through 2 month resistance. It's also shown surprising strength in a market that's been bad for financials and related companies...been showing a nice steady overall uptrend over the past month. Plus, I knew a number of guys in GOS were playing it, and the Market Kid, and also Fous. So all those variables were indicating it was a solid play.

I only wish I had taken a bigger position on it. But I had to keep my position small because #1 I couldn't watch it for the 1st hour of trading today and #2 it was a financial and I didn't want to risk any unforeseen overnight bad news (all the more reasons why swing trades are more risky than day trades, which makes the PDT rule utterly more retarded)
  • MARC
What do you guys think about shorting HBP right here? Is it too soon maybe wait to see if another up day tomorrow?
    Thanks
  • lmsmith
Tim- over 25K- now let the games begin!!!
  • total_keops
    Marc,
no HBP, up on earnings. There is not much room to the downside even if there is great resistance 2.50-2.70.
  • MARC
Thanks for your opinion total. I got out of PLAB a tad too soon.
  • Justin

Start a new post us none alert peeps cant get to the page because of the video.
  • Alex
Yngvai - you're right on the money about RDN. It's been consistantly moving .50 every day....easy to pick up .10-.20 gain with a daytrade. Today, with the nice breakout, morning strenth and market strength I'm goin for .30...almost there.

Also - another point is that there is a huge liquidity pool from here up to $4.50....zero resistance in that zone (where there was just a steady selloff during the month of June.
As i write - taking out 3.75 easy.
  • YngvaiMalmsteve
Damn, wish I had held RDN longer. Would've had even more profit. I think I have a case of TIMitis. Symptoms of this illness include taking profits way too soon :)
  • Alex
Raised my stop and raised my target so hopeully the fun can continue :)
  • Alex
Well, at least you made something.
Yesterday happened to me...had a trade that made $70, coulda been about $250
  • Alex
On RDN...I'll lock in .18 if it hits my stop, .40 if it hits my new target of 3.94
  • Alex
Went through my stop limit of 3.72...down to 3.70, bounced back a little to 3.73...then finally filled at 2.72........GONNA TANK NOW!!!!!!!!!!
  • Alex
RDN - showing more strength ...shoulda just stuck with my original plan of .30 target, maybe.
  • YngvaiMalmsteve
    Alex,

The 10/60 cross using 5 minute time windows works great for timing exits from these. That's what I should've used, as I'd still be holding RDN now. I guess I just saw the flat price action earlier today and wanted to protect my 10% profit. Plus I was using 1-minute time windows, and they re-crossed.

Hell, if a trader had used this cross with 5 minute windows yesterday, he would've entered just above $3, and kept holding it through today, and would still be holding it near $3.80, as they haven't crossed back over each other yet.
  • Alex
Cool man...whatever works. I don't use any indicators except 20-day MA and I read the tape to buy the dips. I bot the second dip this morning at 3.54
  • Alex
or rather...20-period MA as we are talking about daytrading here
  • Alex
    goin higher....blah!!!!!
  • Alex
Sounds like we both did completely different trades but still managed to profit on this bitch. That's how easy these big-ranging financials have been. With a .50 day it's not to hard to pick up .20 profit.
  • hey for those of you who use TOS, do you use 9.95 or 15.00 comissions?
  • YngvaiMalmsteve
I use the flat $9.95 commission. It automatically defaults to the $.015 per share commission on small orders, so you will pay less than $9.95 if your order is, say, 500 shares or less.
  • YngvaiMalmsteve
I'm seriously considering splitting my account between TOS and Speedtrader. This PDT rule is sooooo limiting. I could've had a nice hefty profit on APII had I been able to re-enter my position.

Anybody here use Speedtrader yet? Any reviews?
  • that's a great thought, can you have accounts at different brokerages and get around the pdt that way?
  • YngvaiMalmsteve
Yes, you can. So basically, with 2 accounts with different brokers, you would get 6 day trades per week. Of course, you're going to pay more commissions too. So there's a bit of a trade-off.
  • surprised tim didn't do that, he always talks about how he needs to/should/would open an account with speedtrader since they sponsor him. he could have gotten around the pdt rule that way
