TIMalerts 2 Month Review, Let’s See How Everyone’s Fared

It’s been exactly 2 months since TIMalerts, real-time stock alerts by me, started and I gotta say it’s been a resounding success. Now 400 subscribers strong, each post on the subscribers-only website TIMalerts.com now gets 80-150 comments (that’s why this site has been so quiet lately) and everybody seems to be enjoying my track record below:

I started trading with ZYXI so far this is how I turned out.

ZYXI- broke even...chickened out and covered fast. could have made over $100 on 200 shares

MKTY made around $60 I think. Again I left money on the table covering quickly.

USS made ~$300 Nice profit for 400 shares.

NOBL made $15. Breakout ended by the time I bought still atleast I didn't lose money.

I made one trade on my own in that time and lost $50.

Still up a lot higher then I would have been if I left my money in my mutual fund.

Tim, I made $2,655.11 after commission on the 4 TimAlerts that I played over the 2 months. Unfortunately, that's the end for me, as I got the official word from my company that as of the end of this week I am subject to compliance requirements, which require pre-clearance of all trades and a minimum holding period of 2 months.

thanks for your picks, and maybe if something changes I'll be back, but I doubt it.

Quick question about TIMalerts. I also work in the industry and due to compliance requirements have to get pre-clearance of all trades. My question is how quick after a TIMalert goes out do you have to act on it. Sometimes it can take up to half a day before I have clearance to make a trade from our compliance department. Would that be too late to make TIMalerts work for me?

Think about it this way DMAC, if you can only make 1 trade in a month, you should profit at least $100, triple what timalerts costs. Some of the trades are in and out quick, but some are slow faders that take a couple days to complete. So even if you are a little late to the party, you can still join us for dessert.

Tim, I totally admire everything you do here, and I've learned a lot from you. But I do have to say that the TIMalerts create some artificial price action that really can screw things up. APII was a perfect example today. I had shares of this reserved, but didn't get filled until the low 3.20's because of all the subscribers shorting at the same time. It created an artifical tankage of the stock, and when it climbed back to the high 3.20's, I jumped back out with a loss, out of fear that all of the subscribers would start covering and cause a big squeeze. I may re-short it into the close today, but I'm unsure as now I don't know if the price action is real or artificial.

Then there's the problem with all of the subscribers covering at the same time, which can also cause a massive squeeze on such an illiquid stock.

TIMalerts work great with highly liquid stocks, but with illiquid stocks like APII, it messes things up.

DMAC, do you have a mandatory holding period? As I mentioned above, I can't sell for 60 days from buying, so for me, timAlerts is no longer a viable strategy. If you have no holding limit (and honestly, I'll be surprised if you can buy and sell in the same day), I just don't see it being worth it. It's too much of a crapshoot to get in one of his picks after he is already up a bunch.

But really, other than $30, what do you have to lose. Try it out and decide for yourself. I just know that I'm not planning to trade his picks anymore.

When APII hit 3.40 Tim wasn't the only one shorting. the alerts usually take 1-2 minutes to hit everyone else and by that time the price was already in the low 3.30s to upper 3.20s

Also when Tim has ever cover the stock barely missed a beat and kept going the same direction.

The action today is nearly the same was it was yesterday. it was creeping up then started fading in the afternoon then suddenly tanked. it recovered some then faded again into the close.

Younggunz, there's a big difference between yesterday and today. Yes, it did tank yesterday at 11:15 PM PST, but that was on low volume.

Today, it tanked on well over 50,000 shares traded within minutes, right after Tim sent out his alert. This was obviously due to the all of the subscribers getting in at the same time. NOBL was no different; right after Tim sent out his alerts, there was a huge flurry in trading volume and the price went up. This is not coincidence.

In fact, some of the guys over on GOS said they like to buy stocks when Tim covers, because they know the subscribers may start covering too which will force the price up.

I think there are only about 2 stocks that you could buy into after tim cover that you could make a profit on. Most have continued going the same direction he played them.

Yeah, well, I may have just gotten screwed again by TIMalerts. Decided to play APII again. 1st red candle day of a big runup. Should be a good short into the close, right? I re-shorted it a few minutes into the close...only to see covers in the last 60 seconds and see it finish green. Then I heard in GOS that Tim had put out a cover alert, and some of them didn't get it until the last few minutes.

Tim, I admire everything you do. I've learned so much from you. But TIMalerts can screw up the very patterns that you teach here and on your DVD.

I should've avoided APII all together knowing it was a Timalert. Too much artificial price action going on.

I've followed this blog and been posting since before most on here...all the way back to Tim's ESLR scalp out of the long term "cup and handle" last December 2007. I'm a big follower and appreciate all of what Tim does in terms of teaching, but the alerts do create artificial price action--no doubt about it.

I want to focus on good trades and good trades only. Trying to beat other subscribers to the punch to reserve shares and get fills on a low float stock is a distraction. I just memorize Tim's patterns and find non-Tim Alert stocks to tackle. Less competition and easier fills.

If you had shorted APII at 3.20, you're hurting right now and hoping there is no morning squeeze on u tomorrow morning...unless you got out of course.

I subscribe to TimAlerts. But I have to admit, it does seem a little like it goes against the whole "teaching" message Tim started out with.
At the end of the day, the testimonials are like everyone letting Tim know what grade they got on the assignment he did for them.

actually yngvai APII would've been a horrible short into the close, whether or not i covered--cuz it'd stopped fading and u should only shorts stock thats fade/close red. u just need to learn the pattern better or at least subscribe if you're gonna touch stocks i play. and yes i take losses quickly when there's news coming up that i cant predict, namely their earnings.

PS to everyone playing APII, u shouldnt need my alerts, u should see the fades coming a mile away, wasnt tough to see when i'd short at 3.40, big block sells were coming in and taking out the bids....too easy

Tim, you say people don't have to follow you, but the fact is, they are going to. And on an illiquid stock, that's going to affect the price action. If you have 300 subscribers, and they all short 500 shares, that's 150,000 shares in trading volume right there. That's going to affect the price action dramatically on an illiquid stock. And people are going to be competing for fills, and some aren't going to be so lucky.

There's no doubt that TIMAlerts artificially changes the price action. These stocks are too illiquid for the alerts not to have an effect.

then tim buys/sells, and then you get the email (double suckers). then he gets out after the last email.

IMO, Tim's subscribers can easily account for 25%+ of the daily volume. It is going to get even more worrisome the larger the Tim Alert subscriber base grows.

There are currently 300+ subscribers after only a couple of months. Just imagine a stock that trades 500,000 shares per day, and the Tim Alert subscriber base is up to let's say 900-each of whom shorts a measly 500 shares of a stock after receiving the TimAlert e-mail. That is 450,000 shares. You better believe that is going influence the price action artificially.

I think I disagree with many things that are said here but I keep my mouth shut on that. If I'm not happy I just have to go somewhere else.
I was watching that APII stock and tried to sell at 3.35 without the Timalerts. I knew he would trade it so I tried to get in before. Just missed the print and got it at 3.22. Got out by myself, with no babysitter, at 3.19 because of what I saw on the tape. Timalerts have an impact on the price and this is totally fair. Who cares. Just adapt yourself to it. Some people scalped 20 cents and it's good for them. There is still plenty of meat in this stock. To me this close is a doji star and it should mean a reversal. (I'm not in by the way). I do find it funny that Tim say he is not a scalper and he is looking for a dollar per trade and we see him taking 20-40 cents within an hour but it's not important. And what should we expect, it's in his book; always close too soon. What matter is the stock pick and the cash you can make out of it. Many people here would like to clic on a button and see instant money cashing in. That's not the way it works, you have to be a good trader. And that, dosen't comme free with the DVD. You have to practice and work on it. It's that thing called experience.
Anyways, my point is reality is reality and we have to adapt ourselves to it. We are responsible of our trading, nobody else is, we pull the trigger.

yngvai, they'll only follow me if they can make $...in order to make $, my alerts have to be quality. any alert service can affect the price of a stock, most just suck. learn to deal with one that doesnt.

my alerts "artificially change price action"??!?!? no, i only trade when i see a change in trend, if others trade that trend too its just exacerbated, not artificially changed....

with APII, it was clearly fading this morning as it couldnt do much after a 3.45 breakout...i thought it was over...its holding green on the day proved me wrong so i got out. simple.

as for illiquid stocks, TIMalerts will continue to grow so it'll probly be similar to the cramer effect, which is funny cuz he's covered the same "illiquid" (500k trade/day i not illiquid) and he doesnt move the price much...guess people realize he's 50/50 where when i make a trade, the odds are slightly different

Trade some real companies and you will that that 150 on the bid is no big deal, a couple cents slippage at worst.

I would call an afternoon fade turning into a tank within minutes of the alert as artificial, not an exacerbation.

I doubt this stock would've tanked from 3.45ish to 3.11ish within minutes without tons of subscribers all shorting the stock at the same time. That IS artificial price action. If it wouldn't have happened without the alerts, it's artificial.

The same thing happened to NOBL. Within minutes of the alert, it rapidly went from $5 to almost $5.50. As soon as TimAlert buyers were done buying, the stock stopped increasing as well. That's not a coincidence. I seriously wonder if the price ever had gone much over $5 in the first place had it not been for the alerts.

I'm not saying alerts won't help people. But I am saying that they do change things, like it or not. It adds another variable into the equation, which is why I'm probably going to follow A's lead and avoid alert plays in the future. Then that would be one less variable that I have to worry about.

Some of you have an over inflated imagination of how many subscribers are actually trading Tim's alerts. APII was going strong into the close. Tim covered way before the close anyways.

The only difference between Tim posting about when he is trading a stock and anyone else on this blog commenting or people on GOTS is that there are people willing to pay to know when Tim makes a trade. There are plenty of people that follow other respected traders on GOTS and theLion.

I sure as hell wouldn't want to be going into the close short APII TimAlert or not.

Tim stated in his warning before he shorted the negatives and that this was going to be a riskier play then most. This was one of the few plays that weren't easy to follow if you weren't already planning to short it yourself and had a enter and exit planned.

Everyone was warned of the risks on this one with plenty of time to analyze it for themselves. There was a fast intraday dip and anyone that didn't get into it quickly didn't make any money off of it.

I'm not talking about shorting NOBL. I'm talking about when you put out a buy alert for it. Right after the buy alert, volume picked up dramatically and it went from $5 to $5.40. It didn't get much higher than that after buyers were done. I doubt it would've made that move without TimAlerts.

I remember when Lionmaster made a BPG pick. Price action was relatively flat, then it exploded upwards right after he made his post. And it never moved higher after all his followers were done buying. That's not coincidence. I remember Tim even telling me that the move was probably due to Lionmaster. He even told me to be careful as I was considering BPG as a play. Now you guys seem to think that TimAlert subscribers don't have the same effect.

You guys are in total denial if you think TimAlert subscribers aren't having an artificial effect on the price action.

anybody who bought before the close made solid solid gains. i got out at 5.50...nobody cared about me selling, it went to 5.75 for 15 minutes.

of course people have an impact, but it exacerbation of a trend already in place. made funnier by the fact that anyone who follows my blog/dvd rules canpredict what i'm gonna do hours before i do it.

not that it matters, but lionmaster now anyone else details their entire strategy/answers all questions so that eventually u wont need me. TIMalerts is for the lazy and new. anybody independent and experienced should aniticipate it all

u see u just dont seethe price action before the alrt goes out (consideirng u've no idea when the alert goes out)...NOBL had already tanked and firmed on the bid before i bought...APII had already put a wall of sllers and ratcheted down ont he bid. these little signs are what happens before avalanches.

Younggunz, it may be true that Tim covered way before the close, but not all subscribers get the alerts right away. A few subscribers told me they didn't get the alert until a few minutes before the close.

Certainly, not all subscribers played this. But the fact is, this is a low float, illiquid stock. It doesn't take much to move it. And even if 100 subscribers (only 1/3) shorted 500 shares each (that's not very many shares), that's still 50,000 shares. 50,000 shares within minutes is going to have a very dramatic effect on the price action.

Long time reader (Dec. '07), First-time poster:

First of all, Tim, I want you to know that I respect and appreciate what you've done to revolutionize Pennystocking.

There is no way APII would have dropped so far, so fast without a bunch of timalertees simultaneously shorting the second the alert went out. You clearly underestimate your influence Tim. You are beginning to create a phenomenon similar to the "Cramer Effect," albeit on a much smaller scale. We all know that your alerts have been profitable (at their "ideal" exits), this is clearly at least partially influenced by your ever-growing following of "students"

The problem with Timalerts is that it decreases the actual amount of observing and learning by pennystockers. I, for one, am considering signing up for timalerts, refreshing my email browser every 5 seconds throughout the day, and immediately entering a market order that coincides with any timalert I receive. While I have no doubt this would be extremely profitable, I doubt it is anything near a strategy Tim professes to teach.

Thoughts? Comments?

yngvai, there's a TIMalerts website where we had 250 comments today...anybody playing this stock was talking about it in realtime and my alert that i covered was sent out with 30 minutes to go...just like NOBL it was classic short covering, not only by subscribers but by other early shorts

Tim, your NOBL buy alert went out right around 3:30 PM EST, am I correct?

If you look at the trading volume after your alert, it skyrocketed after your alert.

Were all of these TimAlert subscribers? Of course not. But I'm sure a big chunk were, and I think you underestimate how much influence the subscribers have. Yes, NOBL had firmed up on the bid. But that's not the point. The point is, if you hadn't sent out an alert, how much volume would there have been in that last half hour? Would it have gone from $5 to $5.40 in that last 30 minutes? I highly doubt that. My feeling is you would've seen solid support around $5 but I doubt it would've closed much higher than that. $5.10 - $5.20 maybe.

Chris, OWW would not get Tim's blessing because it is a real company with real revenues ( I have even booked a couple of trips through them in the past) and because the spike may have been started with the earnings release on August 6th , where they came up with smaller losses than expected.(even it looks like the bottom somehow was on August 8th.

That said, I think it may have a potential to short if the momentum switchs to the downside, but don't think about shorting such a beautiful and strong white candle before a strong reversal side(it is pure upward energy. It would have been a good long into the close today.

If someone didn't get the cover alert until 30 minutes later they shouldn't have gotten the short alert earlier until it was too late and already chugging back up.

You yourself should know that there are countless afternoon fades that drop abruptly. There were 2-3 picks in the last couple trading days that did just that that Tim missed. If he would have hit them he would have been blamed for it.

I realize that not all the subscribers like to post any comments but I don't even think there are more then 50 different posters on the TimAlerts site. Of the ones that actually post only about 10 or so said they got into APII.

Of all the posters in the TimAlerts site many of them have been making far more trades outside of TimAlerts. Some are going after other plays on the morning watchlist some are finding their own based off of the strategies Tim tries to teach.

I haven't had too many TimAlert trades since I signed up but all but the last two I was sitting watching the stock saying to myself, "I should short this now. I think it is doing exactly what Tim said he wanted it to do before he trades." At about the time I say to myself "I wonder why he hasn't jumped on this. I bet he's writing the alert now." the alert pops up in my gmail notifier.

I don't know about the majority of the subscribers but I sure as hell don't plan to follow timalerts forever I want to learn all this to do all on my own. The concept that he's trying to teach is pretty simple. Right now I am just trying to gain the experience of interpreting the patterns and recognizing good entry points.

In the past I have been trading stocks of companies I knew and like their business model. I made some money and got lucky on a lot of them but I wasn't really learning much from the experience

I'm going to go out on a limb here, but I'll bet all the timalerts in the NEXT 2 months will be "profitable" as well. Keep in mind that the majority of people probably didn't make money on the two 4%-at-ideal-exit-point alerts.

Clearly, you understand that your ever-growing following will be able to move most pennystocks in your favor a minimum of 4%, atleast temporarily?

Just pointing out the obvious that your Alerts are exacerbating moves even though momentum may be heading in that direction. In my opinion, NOBL is not an optimal buy, multi-day runner as you suggested the day you bought. I could be wrong of course but time will tell. Has an ugly weekly chart with tons of bitter shareholders who bought at 21 (last year), then 18, then 15, then 12, then 9, then 6, well you get the point.

This stock is a better short-akin to ur midget/basketball player analogy. I just don't see this stock coming vertical straight off the bottom. Not much of a base there despite the earnings news. Might be a good buy sometime, but when a stock goes from 21 to 5 in less than a year, something is wrong.

NOBL coulda woulda shoulda been a multi day runner just like CYD...didnt pan out, 10% profit were the sad result.

I dont really care about the real definition of a doji star. What is clear to me is that 3.50 is a good resistance, there is a lot of room on the downside and that makes it a good risk/reward ratio. Over 3.50 you get out, that's it.
That stock pick is some serious dope, I love it. If you got it at 3.25 and get out at 3.5 that only 7-8% risk and if your right and it goes back down to say 2.00 that's a risk ratio of 2/0.25 = 8 and this is super good.

You say someone should anticipate it all, but the subscriber base changes the variables that you teach.

The "afternoon fade" is exactly that. A fade, not a tank. Yes, they occasionally do turn into tanks, but the TimAlerts certainly increases the probability of that, particularly with a low float stock. Before TIMAlerts, I saw many examples of afternoon fades. Most (not all) were slow and predictable, and timing of entry didn't need to be perfect. But the subscriber base changes all of that because subscribers will jump in at the same time. TIMalerts suddenly make perfect entries more critical, which doesn't sound too good coming from a guy who admits to being horrible with his timing.

Obviously the alerts have an impact. Accept it. He is right saying "anybody independent and experienced should aniticipate it all" and that's what I did. Just got a little late but look at a 1 minute chart and if you where looking at it you would have see the 3.50 fail (and I tell you, there was a wall on the ask at 3.50 and a long, long long exchange between 3.49 and 3.50) and then it drove under the MM30 and MM50 and at the perfect time Tim shorted. You could have do that. I was preparing my order and the bid went down to 3.35, because I hesitated I missed it but anybody with balls could have get in before.
I dont even understand why there is not anyone here saying, you sassies, I shorted at 3.50 and covered at 3.20. We should all have do that. Anybody did? C'mon there's got to be one good trader here? Or are we all followers?

Difference between NOBL and CYD? NOBL was trading at 21 this time last year, and is currently around 5. CYD was trading around 8.50 this time last year, and is currently trading at around 11 dollars. Much less overhead resistance on a weekly basis for CYD vs. NOBL.

Ah yes, XRM in May. Remember it well. Breakout of a beautiful cup and handle base on the weekly chart. Was upset I missed that move. Big difference between XRM and NOBL price chart was that XRM has a classic base that would make even William O'Neill shed tears.

I tend to use the 10/60 sma cross (or when the 10 sma starts to point downward towards the 60 sma...it depends sometimes) using 5 minute time windows like 13th. I find they nearly always perfectly predict the entry point for the afternoon fades. In fact, sometimes they'll predict the fade before even Timmay gets in.

The 10 line started to point towards the 60 line in the 10:00 - 10:05 window. I prepped my order. But the price tanked very quickly while I was prepping my order, and I only got a small partial fill, and ended up chasing it the rest of the way down.

Yeah, my timing may have been better using 1 minute time periods (I would've seen the 10/60 cross sooner), but I've never had a problem before playing afternoon fades using 5 minute time frames. Yes, I was anticipating it too...I probably had shares reserved long before Timalert subscribers did, as I talked about this stock in my blog yesterday....but the alerts aspect changed the whole dynamic of the play and how quickly it moved.

I'm not saying it necessarily hurts my current short position. All I'm saying is that the alerts can alter the price action significantly enough to affect the very strategies that Tim espouses. I still maintain that position and we'll have to agree to disagree.

I could envision a problem, though, where, let's say Tim enters a short position, but for some reason, it doesn't go the way he expects (like a fakeout fade or something like that), and all the subscribers start covering at the same time...the subscribers who are slowest in getting out could get hurt

Kind of funny. I do believe if everyone here had caught APII short and it spiraled downward a dollar everyone would be laughing and celebrating the TimAlert effect. How much did the "Tim Effect" cause USS collapse?? I don't know (probably not much), but no one here cared then.

Now that most couldn't capitalize on APII, TimAlerts are a detriment? IMO...APII was not an ideal setup. I think Tim even stated that beforehand. Any stock with a big spread is dangerous...long or short.

EVERYTHING causes stocks to move. An analyst upgrade, oil ticking lower/higher, interest rates, pump and dumps...it's not artificial...it's the market. Competing forces effecting a stock price. That's all, nothing new. Use it to your advantage.

Anyway, GLT those who kept APII overnight...hopefully there will be some good exit points tomorrow and beyond.

i was wondering if anyone noticed uss's 50% increase today.. i assume it'd be a good short in the future but it is an earnings play so i'm not gonna go for it.

as far as results i've just been monitoring tim's picks which i see have done well, but i've played it safe by buying AAI and riding it from 2.88 to 3.50. i expect it to go well over 4.00. after that i'm definitely gonna start trading based on tim's recs.

This is exactly what I expected with TimAlerts. I'm not one of the many Tim haters out there not by a long shot but after this month I will be canceling my subscription to the service because the subscription base is growing to proportions that are not suitable for microcaps. If we all keep reserving and shorting we will start being squeezed a lot and we'll lose lots of money.

I say just learn the market on your own and learn this game on your own. Tim was more likely more valuable than gold a few months ago when there were few subscribers and reserving shares of companies were easy and the stock wasn't being driven up by this site. Thats just no the case on this site anymore.

But u have to realize that I expect that it will be highly unlikely you will have a month like May again in which you had a large bulk of losing trades--mostly because you are quick to take gains. Even if you are 100% correct on the pattern and wrong/premature in the initial timing (as you were with a number of your trades in the pre Tim-alert days), your alert alone will create price action in your favor immediately after you enter.

Since you take gains qhickly, that is an easy 5% scalp just based on the Tim alert subscriber wave that comes after u send the e-mail. The rest of the fall is the natural fall due to the patterns that you have taught me and u speak about in ur DVD.

I've never seen so much wasted time by people who openly express they don't even want advice from here? Why are you here, go study a chart. You are arguin about circumstantial guesses that can/will never be proven and the babbling is never going to end.

Yes, I agree that there may be a possible 4% price fluctuation due to TIMalerts, but as he said, you should already know your entry and exit targets. If you aren't ready for them, why are you even trading it. As a personal rule, I don't chase a stock over 5% past buy point, it's about risk/reward. If you miss your entry, it's your own damn fault for chasing it. Don't blame Tim because you weren't prepared and chased it up/down.

It sounds to me too many have been spoiled and are now expecting fantastic results on a fucking platter. I came here for 1 good pick per month to pay for the subscription and to look over charts when he issues an alert to see exactly what made him choose each alert. It takes 1 trade you wouldn't have made to cover that subscription. Like someone said on page 2, you pull the trigger, and you are responsible for diving into a trade that isn't ideal. If you didn't like APII, you should have made that choice based on the fact that it wasn't a fast mover like previous trades you've done. Compare it to trades you really liked, did it fit? I doubt it.
