TIMalerts: 10 Of Your Questions Answered Here!

What is TIMalerts?

All the info can be found at TIMalerts.com, a subscribers-only website–basically for $1/day, monthly ($30) or annual ($297) subscription, you get a daily pre-market watchlist emailed to you/posted on the TIMalerts website, real-time trading alerts throughout the day and access to the discussion threads at TIMalerts.com

Will you be closing down TimothySykes.com in favor of TIMalerts.com?

Hello no! I still want to teach this game to everyone, so I’ll respond and post on both sites. I have a feeling all the hardcore traders will post on the TIMalerts site because the $30/month is near-meaningless to them, but it helps to weed out total newbies/poor people.

Is the morning watchlist the same on both sites?

YES! The difference is TIMalert subscribers get it emailed and see it posted on the TIMalerts.com website at 8am, instead of 9:30am, which is hugely important for shorting because TIMalert subscribers can reserve shares of hard-to-borrow stocks early in the morning and by the time non-paying people try to find shares, often times there won’t be any more shares available to short aka advantage TIMalert subscribers!

What is “reserving shares to short”, how do you do it?

See THIS blog post

How often will trading alerts be emailed/posted?

I have no idea, this isn’t a “one stock pick per day/week” BS scam–whenever I send out an alert, there is a worthy setup that has interested me enough to trade that stock, either long or short and those of you who have my PennyStocking instructional DVD package know it’s best to wait for those ideal setups. Sometimes, like yesterday, I’ll send out 4 alerts, sometimes none. The pre-market watchlist will be sent/posted each morning, but trades and worthy setups are unpredictable. One month in, I’ve sent out 12 trade alerts.

What’s the average trade duration & how many of the alerts will be shorts vs. longs?

Again, you guys really need to check out my PennyStocking instructional DVD package beforehand (that’s why I offer a combo deal for $495) so you can understand that my own personal trading is pretty irrelevant to you as I suck at timing, all I bring to the table is my ability to weed out the BS–and there’s a lot of it–to show you the ideal trade setups which I think have the highest probability of success.

One month into TIMalerts, there have been 8 shorts and 4 longs, that’s probly about the ratio it’ll usually be…and ALL trades have been with a 1-2 day time horizon…average gain has been 20%…no joke, check out the table on the homepage of TIMalerts.com

How do I find all my stocks to trade?

Check out THIS blog post to understand that I spend 2-5 hours each night screening and researching potential plays–you could literally do it all yourself, but I understand you’d also like to have a life, so that’s what TIMalerts helps solve–you’re paying me $1/day to put in these 2-5 hours of daily work (depending on how many plays there are). I dare you to find somebody willing to work so cheaply!

Why don’t I “get over myself”, why should you pay somebody who’s only up $8,500 in the last 7 months?

It’s funny that many seem to think that my biz is based in arrogance when in fact it’s experience-based. Thanks to my decade-long journey, detailed in my book An American Hedge Fund, I’ve seen ALL the risks, rewards, good/bad guys, good/bad companies in this niche and I’ve gotten tens of thousands of emails from traders and investors who are looking for advice/have questions so I feel uniquely qualified to teach people to profit from PennyStocking. (It’s not a “get-rich-quick” scheme, it’s all about getting the odds in your favor when you trade by taking advantage of hype, greed and marketplace corruption/manipulation.

Yes, my tiny TIM account is up only $8,500, or 70%, in 7 months (see all trades HERE), as the markets have tanked 20%. The reason my account is so small is to show investors with similarly sized accounts EXACTLY how it’s possible to use small account size to their advantage. It’s funny that many people in this joke of an industry are such snobs–just wait when TIM has assets of $100,000, I’ll be up $70,000 within a few months–probly even more considering I won’t be limited by the absurd Pattern Day Trader Rule!

Still none of my actual trading really matters as much as my ability to spot potential plays–if you’ve been reading my blog, you know I like to say “I’ll pick ‘em, you trade ‘em”.

What email address will the alerts be sent to?

Since TIMalert subscriptions are paid through Paypal, we’ll use your Paypal email address, just contact me if you’d like to use a different one.

Do we only accept Paypal payments?

Yes, but we’re working on getting credit cards accepted, will be done in the next few weeks…( not exactly high priority considering you can input your credit card info into Paypal)

  • Hey Tim...any thoughts on PEIX?
  • brent
Got in on ABAT on the pull back after open at 5.48. Endured, resisted the temptation to sell at a losss, the run back up to 5.59 or so and sold into the down draft at 5.28 for .20 gain, 84 bucks after commission. Pretty pathetic. Of course the bottom drops to new LOD at 5.15. Still learning and need to continue to be patient through the ups and downs of the price. Could have put a mental stop at 5.28. Even with that I would have been out at 5.28. Maybe a late day fade to hold O/N. Any thoughts?
  • In the future will we be able to get alerts by mobile?
  • tradertomcat...get a blackberry
  • QMNM looks to break out again
  • AdamN
Hey Tim, for TIMAlerts, can we provide more than one email address to be alerted? I trade both at work and at home. It would be nice to receive alerts to both email accounts.
  • sure, just let me know your other email
  • totobernal
I'm new to trading, so Timalerts is not for me?
  • on the contrary totobernal, it'll open your eyes to exactly how i trade and give u access to the subscription site where a bunch of profitable traders discuss potential trades
  • MARC
Tim Thanks. Does anyone else use thinkorswim? It seems to be on the pricey side. Are there any other options?
Thanks in advance for your time.
  • brent
how soon would i be activated on sub site if i enrolled now?
  • u get activation within 24 hours
  • getshorty
Marc, I have 2 account, Interactive Brokers and Think or Swim, much more availability of shares to short on TOS, plus they let you reserve. IB is cheaper, I use both depending whether IB has the share i need available or not.
  • getshorty
Fricking boring day, may as well close my terminal and call it a day.
  • chasdabigone
    WM falling
  • MARC
Getshorty, I do like the idea of being able to reserve the shares. My thinking is TOS not having enough shares especially if most of everyone on this site uses them. Do you have to call them for every trade or could it be done over the internet? I also have 2 accounts 1 with scottrade and im found out they dont alow me to short a whole lot so I went with tradeking for my second. I found out about tradeking from this site and now im finding out the same so I guess im on my way to a 3rd account with TOS and my money is spread thin at this point.
    Thanks
  • Gburleson1
TIm please send alerts to gburleson1@msn.com which is the email you already have on file and gary.burleson1@us.army.mil, Thank you for being a great coach.
  • Guys, no more 2 email addresses, its just too much of a mess for me, that'll only be limited to annual members, this is what the timalerts website is for...sorry
  • younggunz
I have one more question after refering to your reserving shares on ToS blog.

After you reserve shares with the live chat do you have to send them a chat message again to tell them that you want to use the shares you reserved or will they get used automatically when you enter your short offer?
  • getshorty
Marc and Young GUnz, glad to help, but it will be less clutter here if you just call TOS and ask this questions directly.

You reserve shares through chat at TOS
  • MARC
Getshorty, lol you are right its not like you work for them sorry. Thanks for your input.
  • brent
had a couple shots at GIGM above 13. Missed opp. Tim you waiting for another up move on this one? Or, are you in?
  • PCola
Hey shorty, did you take CFA Level 2 a month ago, or 13 months ago? I took it a month ago.
  • wow...called another QMNM breakkout!
  • getshorty
A moth ago PCola, on June 2008, waiting for results, I nailed everything BUT accounting and accounting came big on this one, too much time studying quant was not worth it, how did yours went? Pretty primitive taking 2 months to grade a multiple choice test, guess it is just a brutal display of monopolistic power.
  • getshorty
Come on GIGM, quit flirting with 12.70 support and just dieeee!!!!!!!!
  • PCola
Oh man, I'm reporting you to the CFA for unethical use of "Level 3 CFA candidate" :D.

I studied for about 2 weeks, so I don't expect to pass, but it didn't go as badly as I had expected. I took the actuarial exams before I changed jobs this year, and they also take 2 months to grade a 60 question MC test... They say it's to allow for challenges to questions and to decide the passing score, but I don't buy it either...
  • getshorty
PCola, cool down, I am a "virtual" level 3 candidate, if you report me they'll go back to you for unproper use of the CFA council ....ahhhh...so ..... a "guy" called "get shorty" misused the CFA designation.....mhhmmmm.... looks like we have a case here......
  • getshorty
don't you dare to go over 12.85 GIGM..... DON'T YOU DARE !!!!!
  • Man QMNM sucks bad...such a fake out
  • getshorty
Come on GIGM... I'll take you by the hand... just a little bit closer to the 12.70 cliff.... nothing will happen ....... (buaaahahahahaha (evil laugh))
  • brent
    getshorty; you holding O/N
  • PCola
Shorty, I was just joking, thus the :D at the end.

    Good luck to us both.
  • younggunz
Yeah but I am lazy. I wasn't asking about whether I can use live chat to reserve my question was do i have to tell them again right before i make my short request that i want to use my reserved shares. I will just ask in live chat now anyways to find out.
  • younggunz
I should have mentioned earlier another reason why I ask. I saw what looked like Tim send a note in ToS live chat that he wanted to use his reserved shares to short then went to the trade screen and made his short offer.
  • younggunz
That was when he made his first live trade on Livestock.

man, i'm on a role with writing incomplete comments.
  • getshorty
was that a fakedown on gigm?
  • chasdabigone
FRE looks like it will be a penny stock soon
  • getshorty
Me too, put some rum on that cola :D
  • getshorty
Still making up my mind brent, but at this point I don't see why not
  • bestdeception
FRE won't be a penny stock because the government has already said it WONT fail. Cramer's a frickin' idiot and tanked the market by saying Freddie and Fannie are going to fail, when his buddy ol' pal Hanky has already said they WILL not, under any circumstances, fail.
  • getshorty
300 shares short overnight gigm, trying to short additional 200 but tos is taking forever
  • Wes
    Tim -

Today was my first day of TimAlerts and my first short ever!

Made $70 on 150 shares of GIGM....it wasn't much but it did pay for my TimAlerts.

    Thanks

    12:57 dingo907: come on
    12:58 dingo907: Joseph

20 minutes and I couldn't short fricking 200 addtl shares!!!
  • PCola
shorty, why didn't you put in the order earlier in the day at like $14 and then just change it yourself?
  • getshorty
I did that for my 300 shares position, which I am holding overnight, however I liquidated other position later that gave me the fire power to short additional 200 shares.

I have most of my money on my IB account, but now that my TOS account doesn't have the PDT restriction anymore I'll transfer most of my money to TOS.
  • getshorty
Tim, whats your take on gigm, you said earlier you were waiting for it to break the 12.70 support, looks like a little risk overnight short.
  • brent
getshorty; i decided to stay out. If history is any indication you should be fine.
  • brent
what's the deal with the subscription website. Do I just wait for information to be emailed? Is this a completely different url?
  • Scotty
Tim, I don't mean to rain on the parade...but I find it a bit disingenuous to use "Ideal Exit Price" as your basis for % Gain. As I understand, you also send out an alert when you exit a position. Shouldn't that be the basis for % Gain (or loss), what you actually called? "Ideal Exit Price" is simply cherry picking the high/low price after an alert. For someone who has demonstrated the ability to trade extremely well, this undercuts your credibility.
  • PCola
Scotty, I think the point is that Tim is a self-proclaimed bad timer. The "ideal exit" is a price where otehrs would probably exit. I didn't check thoroughly, but I don't think it's the best possible exit, just one where others may have exited. It would be different if he hid his own trades and only posted the "ideal" exits, but you can find all of his trades on this site, so it's not like he's taking credit for hitting those exits.

    Just my opinion anyway.

Maybe a compromise would be to add a colume for "Tim's exit" to avoid the appearance of sugar coating his performance.
  • The Chad
    Tim,

Regarding the alerts - do you make mention of when/where you plan to exit the pick, or is the alert simply an array of potential stocks to go long, and or short?

    Thanks,
    The Chad
  • The Chad
If what Scotty mentioned above is true - that you send an additional alert out regarding when you plan to exit the stock, there's no need to reply to my post.
  • PCola
Chad, Scotty's comment is about the after-the-fact table that he uses to track alerts. He does not e-mail exit prices, he just exits when he feels the time is right and then sends an e-mail.
  • Pumacom
Just buy when he buys, you'll be fine. I don't know about you but I trust the judgement of a guy who turned 12 gs into 2 mil. I can't short because I'm trading in an IRA, but both buy alerts I've received have returned 10+%
  • HoustonBIZ
Gemini, it sucks, one lousy meeting late in the day ant QMNM spikes... saw PEIX lost steam also. Oh well, tomorrow's another day right?
  • YngvaiMalmsteve
Missing plays is a part of the game. I missed the move on QMNM as well even though I had it on my watchlist. After this morning I had taken most of the day off of trading.

I also was going to short ARTE into the close. It had broken $2 support and was hovering at $1.95. I had 1500 shares reserved, but I decided to wait until the close. It then dropped to $1.87 and I decided not to chase it so I missed my execution. $1.95 would've been a perfect entry; if it breaks down further the next support level is $1.60; that would've been a nice 20% return on my position :(
  • getshorty, glad u got in on GIGM, next time u gotta reserve shares eary in the morn so u can enter the trade yourself...its all about preparation...i missed out as i was in a meeting, anyway i dont like stocks that only breakdown int he last 20 minutes possibly due to bad market...we'll see

scotty, my exit price has little to do with timalert subscribers success, i exited ERII before the runup yet most stayed in, mistimed CNEh completely, others profited...the ideal exit is not the exact day low/high, its just how quickly the stock has moved within 1-2 days...all i'm trying to do is find those setups for u guys, my dvd, my site, its all about u doing better than me so my 70% return over the past few months really is worst case scenario
  • chad, all the alerts are potential plays, along with my trades....all just to help give u an overview of the stocks in play and what i think...u do your own trading...most of my setups work out quite nicely, but eve with y 70% return, i'm not even close to being perfect
  • Alright, its not exactly on topic but i just wrote a good article with an awsome pic take a look

    Thanks Tim...
  • sgarza
HOUSTONBIZ...do you attend bauer by any chance???
  • HoustonBIZ
sgarza... I did a few years ago, but didnt finish it due to starting a business. Looking to go back soon though.
  • sgarza
oh, ok.. i currently attend UH. Its good to so see a fellow Houstonian up in here..
  • Jerry Zoom
Hey get shorty... why not stay at IB..... don't they have better prices?
  • that guy
does anybody know of any other brokers that will allow you to reserve shares other than TOS? Like etrade, scottrade or IB?
  • Yin
    Hi Tim,

I'm new here. Can you please send me some sample alerts (both buy and sell), I want to get familiar with the format of your alerts first then subscribe it.

Thank you so much for your help!

New to stock trading... There are some comments in this forum about having to reserve stocks to short via chatting with your broker? Could someone explain this further? Thank you.
