livestock logo Submit Your Questions Now To Be Answered Tomorrow On LiveStock!

LiveStock returns at its regular time tomorrow 1-2PM EST so get excited! The one complaint I got was that last time I missed some of your questions in the chatroom–so this tim tim Timminaay got smart and decided to ask you for questions and tickers ahead of time!

Please comment below with ANY questions you have and ANY tickers you want analyzed…this way you all are happy and I can come up with clever putdowns for idiotic questions and non-volatile stocks…just kidding, there’s no such thing as a stupid question…but definitely no non-volatile stocks or I’ll rip you a new one…that I promise you. (Yah that’s right value investors, I haven’t picked on you in a while cuz you’ve been your typically boring selves–well, you’ve had your chance at primetime entertainment, but thanks to your personalities, you’ve failed.)

I digress, ask your questions below!

Is it true that it is only morally ok to short sell if you do it through a hole in a sheet? :)

Sorry, that was my idiotic question.. I'll come up with something real in a few..
  • Ryan
    For tomorrow:
What is the best way to find fluffs before they skyrocket? Do you look on thelion.com? Read other blogs? Then who to believe other than Superman (look at his NTI today). I love your strategy but isn't there we can go long on fluffs and then short when they are ready, it would be great to find double dipping method!
  • Rambone
If your 500K was in your account to start the year instead of the 13K how much do you feel it would have been up to?
  • Bob (VC)
Besides the Supernova what, in your opinion, are the two most reliable patterns you look for in a chart?
  • sonid
Tim, as a student of yours and a big follower I have watched the DVD and listened to most of your advice along the way. My question for tomorrow's show is there are so many charts and low priced shit stocks around how do you really narrow down which ones you're going to play ? For example almost everyday you list around 10 stocks or so on your site but inevitably you only play one or two if any that day, please explain how you narrow your focus.
  • younggunz
Are you actually taking serious steps to try and lobby the SEC to change their day trading policies? In my opinion it would be easier to lobby them to lift the time limit for traders that have active account for more then 6-12 months or something instead of trying toget them to completely remove it. What do you think?
  • sonid
PTEK = fading volume, finally negative on the day and POS. looks like Timmay nailed it again.
  • getshorty
How about HEK, anybody looking at it, lot of buzz for buying a $ 600 MM bottled water company on china.... looks like a supernova to me, waiting for first down day to short.
  • sniper6
me & Rambone are double dipping that bitch AQQ right now. short 100 @ $46. No ball kicking allowed, light spanking possible.
  • Keith
    out of RUNU @ .09 50% return
  • MTXR
Besides looking at yahoo's daily % gainers and the message boards at investorhub and thelion.com; how else are you finding stocks? Are you using a custom scan? thru clearstation?

How do you sign up with all the stock promoters so one can also get spammed with their junk? Who are some of the prominent stock promoters out there?
  • Max
the only thing keeping PTEK up at this point is short covering imo
  • Bob (VC)
For the 99.999999% of the people that didn't get the above joke:

1)How can you tell a breakout before it happen? and how can you tell when to get out after teh breakout?

2)TOS is there anyway to set up a screener, since account under 25$k is not allow to use Etrader pro?
  • getshorty
Hey Keith, when di you short RUNU, I like to short doubling stocks crap as well, however, it is different from supernovas addressed here, in the case of runu I shorted at 0.50 covered at 0.30 and never looked back, you are a brave soul to be shorting stocks under $0.10.

I shorted a little bit of UOMO, their pick for this week, it ususally moves within a range, previous spike at 0.80, then the y move in a range and faaaaddeeeee away.

Moving to more exciting stocks, any take on HEK?
  • Bob (VC)
When can we use our TIM Bucks?
  • jesseb
Hey Mike_13th, are you around? I was wondering what your take on PCYC is? Do you think it's going to fade this afternoon, do you think it will be up on the day, maybe gap up tomorrow?

What do you think is going to happen, or what are you expecting. I picked up some shares and have a mental stop, but I'm wondering if I should lower it or maybe even raise it...
  • Rambone
Out of HOTT for break even. Retailers are hot.
  • AJF-ESQ
Keith didnt short.....he went long at .06 and sold at .09
  • Al
    SWKS breaking out
  • Adam
    for tomorrow:
finding supernovas is easy, entering and exiting them intraday seems to be my challenge. what intraday patterns are you looking at before entering a short position, intraday short squeezes? I seem to be catching the intraday on the way back up vs on the way down... that a patience issue or is my timing really that bad
  • Al
    SWKS a Cramer pump
  • Keith
I didnt short it I bought it this morning @ .06 and covered @ .09 on 10000 shares, net $278.00. I received a fancy brochure last week when it was .50 and I have followed it since. Been burned in the past trying to play these brochures.
  • Keith
    Im sorry sold @ .09
  • Ryan
MXC, PDO and FPP are on the move again.
  • Keith
HEK doesnt look like its gone far enough for shorting. Lots of support below especially just below 9.00.Means limited downside I think poor risk/reward.
  • sniper6
SATC looking to bust out to all time highs, I got mine @ $2.35, volume is picking up, get yours now for $3.10, all aboard for a quick gap up!!
  • AJF-ESQ
anybody watching TMR? up 15% today for no reason that I can see
  • Tony Ellis
How bout that bottom call on OIL yesterday?
  • novalis78
    someone LONG pcyc?
  • sniper6
Easy to feel good on a day when the bulls are running. May I suggest you go long DAR if you have sufficiently profited from your shorts today 8>)
  • jesseb
novalis I am...I'm not sure where it's going though, it has met some serious resistance between 1.40 and 1.45...I was trying to get Mike_13 to comment since he was talking about it earlier...he appears to be MIA.
  • jesseb
Sniper, good job getting into SATC at 2.35...it's sticking right around 3.09...why the hell can I not pick a stock to go long on that will give me a respectable gain...ugh.

How did you find that one before it went up .70?
  • sniper6
jesseb- gotta realize it's steady climber, not a spike up, stay long. Giving props the The Fly for putting me onto that one, but do your own research once you get a list of about 10 or 12 names, pick one or two of 'em. Also like WEL long.
  • novalis78
MIA, LOL. Yes, he mentioned it this morning. Heavy resistance, but stop is in place and we will see how it plays out. Still first day of its breakout move...
  • PAt
Since you have a taste of making considerably large amounts of profit ..50k in a day like you stated on wsw. How are you feeling about what your doing now?/ what do you miss? How do you plan to make that type of money again?
  • sniper6
up next, CMOS on the short side. Debating where/when to enter, probably watch it up to the bell.
  • sniper6
oil getting ready to fuck everyone. Be lucky to close up 50 points.
  • jesseb
Have you ever seen the pink mist, sniper6? :P
  • TomT
Nice call Keith.. wish I got in on it..
  • codyhof
    Anyone else still short PTEK?
  • Keith
Yes I am still short PTEK from 5.48
  • sniper6
pink mist, purple haze, green clovers, blue diamonds, seen it all. Last time I saw the pink mist it was all over the inside of the mark's driver side window. Messy. Chin up, keep some cash/margin equity handy, and the proper opportunity will present itself.
  • getshorty
GOt fucked big time on NTI, bought the dvd, should use it more.

Crappy oil plays all over the place, lost 25 cents on fpp short but made 69 cents on cred short.

Scary shit, will let the smoke go away before reshorting.

still short on ptek here, since yesterday.
  • jesseb
I really need to just get enough that TOS will let me short...I've seen tons of opportunities for shorting, easier to play too because it's easier to tell when it's going to drop, as opposed to when it's going up...

I still have 1500 shares of SPNG, hoping some day it will go up a few dimes :P
  • noobtrader.08
With the SEC limitation on day trading (is it 3 or 4 per week?), IF a day trader has multiple accounts (ie: brokerages) technically he/she would increase the # of days trades they could do per day... because the SEC day trading rule applies to accounts, not the person... right?
  • CMOS wait till that puppy's red. PTEK I'm looking for it to go red on the day then I'll get involved. You still in cody?
  • getshorty
you are right noobtrader, thats what I do, however, it is far from ideal.
  • noobtrader.08
how much money do you need in your account to short stocks? I realize this is stock dependent, but what is the min $$ for shorting a stock?

I know this question has an obvious answer, but I like random feedback... helps me think outside the box.
  • jesseb
noobtrader, It's 3 trades that you're allowed - anything over that is over the limit. I imagine they created the rule to apply to an individual...but they can't really enforce that unless they tell all the brokers to talk to each other :P
  • sniper6
Bone, do you think retail will stay hot? Looking at CACH for a (short) long investment on a pullback.
  • noobtrader.08
    GS,

Why is it far from ideal? Is it not possible to have two monitors going or use alt/tab to go back and forth between the two accounts?

    I'm curious, please elaborate... thanks.
  • spng breakout material just soo cheap that no one really cares I guess, GRO is starting to fade back up. Depending on how much it picks up (and if it stays red) it might be a worthy short overnight hold
  • codyhof
I am still short PTEK yea at 5.18, feeling a little bit of heat but it should pass.
  • noobtrader.08
when and why would you "overnight" short a stock?
  • jesseb
noob, TOS told me you have to have $2000 maintained account balance to short stocks...so you probably want more like $2500+
  • sniper6
jesseb- my personal experience = having decent long positions got me enough equity to start a margin account, and tho' I short hardly at all, it's alway done with equity, not actual cash. The cash is on hand when needing to cover at a loss.
  • YngvaiMalmsteve
NTI is a perfect G Pattern/STEPS pattern. Strong volume move, 2-day pullback on weak volume, then a surge on strong volume again.

Best time to buy this pattern is when it confirms the break previous high...high 15's would've a perfect entry. Sketchy to get in now as $20 is going to be psychological resistance.

Another way to play this pattern is a half-position on confirmation of reversal, and then another half-position when it breaks out.

Wish I had played this, as I've been looking for these patterns. I've gotten burned too much lately and my trigger finger is really hesitant now
  • AlexH
Whats the minimum amount of volume on a stock before you consider shorting?
  • jesseb
But aren't you technically shorting with both cash and margin? I put $1k into my account and they give me $2k margin...but as my cash drops so does my margin. So I mean, if you have 20k margin, and you short 1000 shares of a stock at $10...and then it goes up to $15 you lose 5k, at which point your cash is now only at 5k and your margin at 10k.

Am I just totally lost? :P
  • yea thats right jesse, alex if your shorting you want over a couple hundred thousand of volume so you will be able to get in and out quickly. If there's no volume there's nobody to buy your short
  • noob, you can short and hold if the stock is breaking down and is holding that breakdown till the close. However, you have to be weary of a morning spike
  • Keith
I have never had a problem getting out of a short. And as far as shorting it is always on margin because that is what you are doing borrowing stock. Margin=borrowed money,Short sell=borrowed stock.
  • sniper6
well stated kid, perfect case in point is my AQQ short, oh it'll go down, but shitty volume means I gotta wait to cover if I want to bank real $$$, need buyers! For noob, that is why I might end up overnite, or even longer, short. For jesseb, I'm not tryin' to lose more than I can cover cash, then I'd have to sell longs I want to keep (or am holding at a loss waiting for a rebound). It's just a personal strategy, I am at heart a long investor/sometime scalper.
  • Keith
I would like to see some selling into the close on PTEK.unlike the past 2 days of buying into the close
  • codyhof
Holding onto my PTEK overnight sleeping easy with todays action even though im only up 4 cents a share.

Also still have my GRO from 6.83, holding overnight as well, great breakdown today, not as big as yesterday but i think i can squeeze a little more out of it.
  • getshorty
    noob, becasuse
-it creates extra work on tracking your results
-If you use one account to cancel your position in the other to avoid PDT, then you incurr in double commission.
    - I can barely afford my laptop, no money to oput in fancy two monitor system (full time grad student here)

However, I keep on using it cause there is no better option so far.
  • excellent trades cody and I'd probably do the same, unfortunely I can't get in because etrade blows
  • i wouldnt short AQQ or PTEK here, it's call consolidation...here's a new post:

    http://www.timothysykes.com/2008/06/05/2-wild-c...
  • shorty how could u have gotten screwed on NTI? did u not see it was consolidating/getting stronger? punishent is to watch the DVD 2x tonight
  • YngvaiMalmsteve
Just bought CMOS, SGN, and MBLX into the close today
  • limit orders killin you cody, price at 5.23, bid 4.55-ask 5.70 that's a huge spread anyone else see that or is my etrade actin a fool
  • codyhof
im showing that crazy ass spread too, shits bananas
  • TomT
YngvaiMalmsteve - did you buy or short
  • YngvaiMalmsteve
I bought them. I've set tight stops though in case these moves don't continue.
  • noobtrader.08
    Getshorty (great movie btw (obviously))

Got it. One question, what is PDT? Thanks for explaining though.

JesseB - thanks for the info... I'm planning on starting with only $5K, although I have 10K to play with, so this will enable to me to short, which is great... can't wait to join the in the fun! I'm being conservative as Tim as told me (all of us) to be.

Keith, SyleKid, Snipe... thanks for the quick replies.
  • noobtrader.08
    Yng-

A couple questions... what is a "G pattern"? What is a "steps pattern"?

Anyone... what is a scalp? and how is this done?
  • WING
