Hot Stocks: Vivus Inc (VVUS), Third Wave Technologies Inc (TWTI) & More!

CabelTel International Corp. (GBR) and KENTUCKY USA ENERGY INC (KYUS) are the stocks I’m targeting to short today…GBR because Friday was its first down day—which I missed due to LiveStock—even if the spread is ridiculous…hopefully there’ll be an opening spike due to oil…KYUS didn’t finish red, but the momentum definitely suffered, let’s see how many more mailers these guys can send out, can’t go on forever.

I also missed the roller coaster known as Sino-Global Shipping America, Ltd. (SINO)—all you people buying Friday afternoon are just complete morons. Seriously. Have I taught you nothing? Why the hell would you ever buy a speculative company that’s already risen so much, especially when it cracked support at $24? Did you believe the message board hype? You really haven’t watched my PennyStocking DVD yet, have you? For shame.

Then there’s the royally volatile oil-related plays Mexco Energy Corporation (MXC), Pyramid Oil Company (PDO), Fieldpoint Petroleum Corporation (FPP), Solarfun Power Holdings Co., Ltd. (ADR) (SOLF), China Precision Steel, Inc. (CPSL), Pacific Ethanol Inc (PEIX) and Royal Energy, Inc. (ROYL)…all up a ton, down a ton, now bouncing…think of these stocks like bouncing balls on a wooden floor—the momentum will gradually die out, but its exacerbated by long-term-minded shorts who get squeezed…I might buy ‘em on any breakout, short ‘em on breakdowns, obviously leaning towards the short side…

Vivus Inc (VVUS) is up 40% on positive drug news, with a few intraday dips, news ain’t that big, expect more dips, possible bigtime reversal, still not up enough to get me really excited to short though

Third Wave Technologies Inc (TWTI) is the only one worthy of getting its chart shown cuz it’s a perfect breakout of $10…last breakout it went from $6 to $10 in 3 months, let’s see how far this one goes

stock breakout Hot Stocks: Vivus Inc (VVUS), Third Wave Technologies Inc (TWTI) & More!

NWOOF is a gray sheet, not even up to pink sheet level, so they had some oil news, not up enough to do anything about it and I can’t even see its intraday price action

Last but certainly least, ECHO SATELLITE COMMUNICATION (ECSC) is up a bit so I’m keeping an eye on this pile of dung.

its going to be an interesting morning since I think everyone will be waiting to see what the energy plays do this week. I'm keeping an eye on FPP this suckers going to get crushed sooner or later
  • yah also market moving news at 10am
  • Webster
Interesting on FPP is that for the past week or so tons of premarket volume and it is very quiet this morning
  • YngvaiMalmsteve
No KYUS avail to borrow this morning. I am short GBR though...shorted it at $10.70 in the last hour of trading on Friday. Also long a couple of Fous's picks (which I won't mention here)
  • short the first down day works like a charm again on GBR, no matter the ridiculous price spread...can't find any KYUS to short, anybody else get a borrow?
  • Yngvai, mention your look picks, if they're any good, we won't short em
  • scarce for sure
  • and even if we did, our shorting into any quality long pick would just help u cuz it might create a short squeeze
  • Its ARCA vs World just like MXFD is/was on kyus
  • Bob (VC)
Anyone watching IMGR? It's up over 200%, but it's on semi-real news.

As for Fous picks, I'm going to guess Yngvai is talking about one of these CHTL,TSRA, UNCL I'm not a Black Service subscriber, but he (Cameron) left those floating on the TIMTV chat log, so that makes it public domain as far as I'm concerned.
  • YngvaiMalmsteve
Covered my GBR position at $8.31 for a nice $219 profit after commissions. Not bad for a small $3700 account.
  • nice yngvai, love it when perfect shorts work out!
  • Bob (VC)
TDA wouldn't let me short GBR. Gave me some message about opening positions for that security need to be placed with a broker.. blah blah..
  • Looks like Livestock found the top of KYUS ;) ba boooooooom
  • Fantom
I'm learning Tim, I called those two this weekend. Thanks.
  • YngvaiMalmsteve
Uggg...I just hate to see GBR tanking even more after I covered :(
  • SemperTrader
    look out below!
  • investorslive, u find any shares to short?

yngvai, amazing how fast these things can crumble, right?
  • JeffMoates
GBR is on TDA's suspicious trading list. When a stock goes on there you just have to call for any opening trading move. Regardless, they have no shares to short. Checked early this morning.
  • Friday mid day there was many (during your livestock chat) towards the end of the day they went scare and none this morning
  • Bob (VC)
    Thanks for the info Jeff
  • Wow! KYUS is down to 3.15 right now! During your Livestock show, that guy in the chat room said wait until it breaks 4.20.

Whoever got KYUS shares is having a good day today!
  • Bob (VC)
Turns out I can halt any momentum by buying into positive, or short selling negative... I had no idea I had such power. Just scalped GBR for a whopping $40..
  • Bob (VC)
Make that above GBR an SPF..
  • Michael Goode
Well it looks like I'm the only one with KYUS shares short -- I've been short since last week, average price around $3.83. Not finding shares of these junk stocks to short at the perfect time is why I like to play them longer-term, although that often leads to short-term pain. Of course, my profit from KYUS today is just enough to cover my loss on MXFD today. Thanks to Investorslive -- I think you were the first to mention KYUS.
  • Ooh, nice crash in GRDB today. That is what happens to many pumped penny stocks and why you can never INVEST in them (although you can speculate in them). I blogged it yesterday on the Motley Fool CAPS (see the URL linked from my name above).
  • Fantom
CLWR short 350 shares for 140 profit

    Thanks Tim
  • GabeC
Got a nice scalp of SPF.
In @ 3.03 out at 3.47, and its still going, wow.
Thats some straight vertical action. Had some GBR reserved but I always miss those damn morning panics. O well
  • YngvaiMalmsteve
My target exit on 100 shares GBR was near $8, figuring support at that level. When it fell to $8.31, there was a big bid/ask spread...and I figured it may not crack much beyond $8 and what's an extra $30 profit or so? So I covered...only to see it later fall all the way to the low $7's before bouncing. Still, a good trade for me in both choice and execution.
  • Bob (VC)
Gabe, nice scalp on SPF- sorry I single-handedly halted the momentum on that one :)

Michael, you're currently ranked #16 on CAPS! That is pretty damn impressive. I've been as high as the 97+ percentile, but no were near the top twenty overall. I pretty much stopped tending to it a few months back, but have managed to stay above 90% the whole time. Maybe I'll jump back in (my knowledge is a bit higher now than when I joined CAPS).
  • Webster
Volume is down across all of the oil stocks, might be setting up for a nice afternoon fade.
  • M
    Tim,

Do most of these short plays end up dropping more like a bouncing ball (like MXC, PDO and gang), or like an anchor straight back down?

And if you can, maybe you could explain the different indicators in the charts that would signal an anchor type drop or a bouncing ball type drop. Or maybe there is no way of knowing?

    Great calls this morning!
  • M, all on my DVD....patterns dont change much, just stocks and players
  • bill
Where can one see all stocks that are making new 52week high?
  • noobtrader.08
    Tim,

Still haven't received my DVD package... but I trust that it is in transit.

Ideally, with our student/teacher relationship, I would like to "think" like you when trading penny stocks. More specifically, any "good" student eventually surpasses their teacher because the student will take everything the teacher has learned and taught and then combine this knowledge with his/her (the students) own theory/thinking.

The "teach a man to fish" metaphor comes to mind here or even the Karate Kid... you know what I mean...

Let's say one day down the road you ask one of your
  • yah DVD was shipped last week, forgein orders take longer...as for guest posts, i dont care how somebody thinks if theyre successful. who knows if my theories are correct, but the fact that any people are now profiting from them gives them credibility.

the dvd covers what i look for in stocks
  • noobtrader.08
    thanks dude.

i'll hit you up with a few Q's after I watch the DVD.

My next book is Reminiscences of a Stock Operator, looking forward to it.
