17 Hot Energy Stocks aka Soon To Be Great Short Selling Plays

Posted by timothysykes on Wed 21st of May, 2008 08:34:36 AM

PennyStocking DVD students understand worthy trading opportunities only come about every so often—all the normal daily stuff is just too random/unpredictable—so by focusing on these few truly predictable situations, your profitability increases exponentially. If you can keep a cool head when everyone else is going crazy around you, this game gets much easier…that’s right, you 90% of trader losers out there, now is the time to try to recoup your horrific losses! (I’m talking to you, you sad little ETers)

I’ve been posting about PDO, MXC and FPP the past few days—even taking quick losses totaling $400 shorting FPP and MXC too early (wisely as it turned out, as those losses would now be pushing $5,000!! Uhh yeah $5k in gains from the long side, if I had any talent whatsoever doing that, which I don’t)—but only after we’ve gotten 3 strong up days are they prime for potentially predictable reversals, the extent of which we’ll have to wait and see…by now you guys should know the signs fo what to look for.

Since we’ll surely be missing them when they’re gone soon, I gotta link to every other site that’s featuring them HERE, HERE and HERE.

MXC ($10 to $43 vertical action, but its got some fluffy news)

sykeshater - how did you make your supposed millions? What’s your trading strategy then?

  2. 102

    Bluff

  3. 103

If you are not bluffing get a covestor account, otherwise I may as well argue with the starbucks barista

I’m long SSN. I got in when it was in the 4’s. I don’t know why you would short it. The chart looks like the beginnings of another PDO/MXC. Plus, why short it today? It’s already way up on the day…remember what Tim said about shorting stocks that are way up on the day

I’m not going to short these energy plays because I’d be fighting the momentum if I did. Better to stick with pump n dump frauds

  5. Can’t log in to TimBucks

  6. 106

I trade ETF’s and Commodities mostly

Sorry I cant set up an account, I actually have a real job getshorty, but thanks for the offer.

PS, if you are looking for Dan-O hes putting an extra coat of wax on the boat, Im hamtons bound at 4:00. Hes like Biff to my George Mcfly

  7. 107

    Neither do I

  8. Well put, Yngvai.

Sometimes when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

  9. Yng- not shorting, just watching. I’ve missed out on most of the long opps if you believe we’re topping out, which I do (Nice job getting in at $4 btw!).

I know many of these energy play are going to eventually reverse, but I doubt the short side is going to be as good as the long side was. Just surprised I haven’t seen this on on any of the watch lists.

  10. Schmuck- i use TOS now switched from zecco. just wish i would have had the patience to ride CPSL for longer, i profited but not by as much as i could have.

and someone mentioned before, yes classic sykes pattern w/ that one. glad i was able to get it on it if only briefly

  11. Tim, what’s your response to Moates’ query regarding when a stock officially cracks in your opinion? Need my Timbucks, but can’t log in on IE version 7.0.5….

  12. 112

    Bob (VC),
Yes i posted this earlier about SSN

    from the chat I

  13. Investorslive, what screens are you using on marketwatch.com? I’m trying to find your post from a few days ago, no luck. Also, where do you access the screens page on your site? thanks!

  14. 114

    YngvaiMalmsteve,

Why short SSN,because I’ve done this for years, probably as long as Tim and I pretty much know when I’m right,
It’s sitting at 6.30 now from that 4 spot

In long from 4.95 out at 7.10
    Then short on 7 downbreak

  15. 115

    It

  16. Mike- I missed that post (sucks for me!). I’ve tuned out a bit lately as I hit my day trade limit on Friday (just got down to two today), and I’ve been busy at work.

Looks like new support for SSN is going to be just above $6, could continue to climb for who knows how long. I really suck with these energy plays..

  17. 117

On a second thought…. good you didn’t had shares of FPP to borrow at 7.8, now they are at 8.20, squeeeezeeee.

  18. 118

Are we all full time traders, on my side I am student with some time I should be using to study, when I was working my productivity suffer because I was hooked to my broker software.

People working full time and trading, how you manage?

I am starting to work in 1 week, three months project before going back to grad school for half a year more.

  19. 119

    here’s one to watch
    From the chat:

    (May 21-12:13) 13th_FLOOR: GBR 52s 9.30,on fly

    At $11 now,haha

  20. Long BDCO 500 shares @ 2.31

  21. Yeah I was just going to mention GBR…I’ve been watching it today. I pretty much missed every opportunity this morning…I thought “man, FPP is up over a buck at market open, I better not buy it now…maybe if it dips” and then the damn thing goes up over $2…*sigh*

My timing needs some serious work ;)

  22. Shorty- it sucks- BIG TIME. Nothing worse than stalking a play and getting called into a meeting, or to a customers site. Bigger downside is that I try to force trades just because I have some time, and I almost always loose money (last week was a $300 down week)..

  23. 123

Jeff C - I think QTWW and MPET are cleaner breakouts/charts than BDCO. They both broke 52 week top side resistance.

  24. 125

    Look at that drop GBR!
Back under 10,love this volatile crap

  25. I’m watching QTWW too, trying to time a cup and handle formation on BDCO, it is lunchtime though and not cooperating! Thanks man.

  26. Saw this article on google finance about mxc:

“As a result of the run-up, Mexco Energy Corp. now has a market valuation of nearly $75 million despite the fact that it turned only $221,000 in profit last quarter, has a book value of merely $7 million, boasts only $220,000 in cash, and has just two full-time employees”

    Mike13th,

If you have the day trade buying power, then going long and short on intraday swings works well. But for me, with a small account size and limited buying power, I might make 50 cent gains doing intraday shorts on these, versus multidollar gains by buying and holding energy plays for a number of days. So that’s why it makes more sense for me to do the latter

  28. Wes glad to hear you had a great day. I am assuming you are out parting now?

  29. fpp is going down ..to bad my wire transfer has not gone through yet!…eee dam it

  30. Wow. Alright i have to stop waking up at 1pm cst.

damn! i been noticing all these major drops and pops happen at like 10 est. sigh.

    AFredella_Esq -

tried to short FPP at 8.08 but no shares at TOS

  32. 133

SSN getting near 7,maybe long time again on/if the 7 cross

  33. your website sux ass. It’s so cluttered, slow and unintuitive. The only reason people come is for the stock picks, not to hear what some stupid narcistic, racist jackass is doing.

  34. none. you are a jackass and a troll. you only came here to rile up the people here and SkysHater1 if you read Tim’s book you would know why he closed his fund and you would also know that his gains are fully audited and on record. Check them yourself. When you are financially independent, you can do whatever you want so Tim’s decided he wants to educate people about pennystocks and destroy the myths about them. How are you giving back to the world?

  35. Hey None, I live in America…we have freedom that came with a cost…but it gave us the freedom to choose….so u have the freedom to leave……bye! bye!…
P.S. You sound like a friend of Tim’s with your language! That is the only part I regret with reading the posts (not professional sounding), but I too have the freedom to leave.

  36. anybody using other brokerages besides TOS and are able to short?

  37. You gotta follow FORC also.

  38. 139

    schmuck,
“anybody using other brokerages besides TOS and are able to short?”

Yeah IB rocks with the available shorts, lower commish Then TOS too.

  39. Glad to read that I am not the only panic stricken one to sell FPP, I hope I will not regret it.
    I made it out 6.8 ( thought I thought it was 7.05)

  40. Energy stocks are not as easy as one would think, because energy is a necessity so people have no choice right?, wrong. There are many factors to consider and meticulously mull over to find the right companies to give your money to. There are a handful of websites I like to go to daily and see just what they
