Lessons Of A Publisher/Video Blogger/Trader (In That Order)

Posted by timothysykes on Mon 12th of May, 2008 06:44:44 PM

Looks like I should’ve scheduled my video interview for after hours because I got back after the market close to find myself down 40 cents/share on CNEX—which practically guarantees a higher opening tomorrow (even if the bid is pretty much where I shorted), I missed on NNVC’s perfect afternoon 25 cent/share fade (any of you guys get in on that?), which shoulda woulda coulda been a solid profit on my 2,000 shares (reserved earlier).

And just to rub it in, I missed out on PDO squeezing the stubborn shorts (who obviously haven’t watched PennyStocking or else they’d be out looooong ago, as I was) into the market close (I saw the morning spike above previous high of $9, but I don’t like buying, let alone buying morning spikes), which coulda woulda shoulda been bought for a probable gap-up/possible big-time morning spike tomorrow.

Sucks, but that’s just the life of a publisher/teacher/trader/blogger/self-promoter (in that order)

The news isn’t all bad—first, I half-expected CNEX to go higher, my entry was a bet the volume would fade (correct), it wouldn’t go much higher (correct so far) and I’ll be able to add either 300 or 600 more shares to my position tomorrow to average up (we’ll see). It’s a somewhat risky strategy—definitely not ideal like VRML, which went down another 15% today, meaning I left $600-ish in missed profits on the table(made easier by yet another reader of mine to posting a $3k-ish profit in just the last week!)—but since it’s such a small position and the company’s such a fraud, it’s a risk I’m willing to take.

More importantly, after filming, I got to meet all the cool people at Mogulus and it looks like TIMtv has found a home…I saw about 20 of you in their crazy video player chat room, what’d you guys think? I know the convo wasn’t totally stock related, so I mean how was the video/chat experience…could be just the beginning, maybe not even always filming in their studio just some marathon trading sessions where we can talk it all out like geeks playing a videogame, World of Warcraft 

Hey, Tim, I got in on the NNVC action, playing it right this time rather than stupidly like I did on Friday. I’m holding my short until tomorrow or Wed at the latest as this has a bit more room to retrace. Target exit is below $1.10. I think it might have the chance to go below $1 but I don’t want to push my luck.

  2. Hey guys Scottrade will not let me short under $5
How you like Think or Swim compared to other brokers.

  3. Does TOS have a minimum that you can short?

  4. Tos does not have a 5$ limit, alot of users here are on the TOS platform and have been shorting Tims picks which usually remain under 5$, i dont believe there is any limit, or at least none i have ran into

  5. I like where your heading with the TimTv idea with Chuckaaaay.

I think its a great balance when you mix anything you feel like talking about along with actual trading talk. Thats what keeps me interested in continuing to learn about the market and how it works.

  6. Hi, I am wathching your dvd over and over again, just want to engrave, everything into my head.

If I am understanding right, the exact point to short NNVC would have been when it broke support at 1.35 (resistance of april 11 2007), then cover for a new cents and then re-short when it broke under 1.2(June 6 2007 resistance).

    Am i getting it right??

Or I should watch the dvds a few dozen more times?

  7. The ChuckTV platform is sick, I think the idea of live video + instant messaging is awesome. It’s blogging on speed.

The geeky/WOW trading marathon idea is golden.

    Keep it up TIIMAAAAAAAY!

  8. shorty nothing is ever exact, i hope u understand that from the dvds, buuuuuuuut the best time to short would have been right after 2pm when after some decent sideways action right around the unchanged mark, it clearly went negative just over $130 and u see what happened next…no idea on when best to cover, as u see i just take my 10-20% profits and get pissed when crap like LGDI and VRML tanks much more later on

  9. Tim you’ve been a great teacher to me! I did my homework last week and I’ve been riding SIX down since last wednesday for about a 19% gain! It was pretty easy I thought!

  10. Hey Tim, I’ve been trying to find a % gainers screen that includes the pinks … no luck. How’d you come across CNEX?

  11. Tim, are you taking part in the Million Dollar Challenge with CNBC?

  12. Timbo,

Wat do you think of VSCI?

    Gotta be P D right?

  13. I think it’s great! CNBC challenge doesn’t allow shorting.

  14. My hands are still tied behind my back- until TOS receive my funds….. can’t wait to start trading- life with out trading…sucks! but it’s fun reading and watching the rest of you… I should be in full effect- maybe tomorrow…

p.s Is TOS user friendly like scottrade?

  15. smith-

don’t know about scotttrade but I can tell u that TOS is kinda hard on the eyes at first, at least for me it was- still getting the feel of it. tons of good info once you figure out how to read it

In as much as I used to be a Producer in the game industry (i left because… let’s just say I still have a job if i want it.); this would be AWESOME!!

A marathon of trading via tele-conference, live chat, etc.

TRADING GEEKS RULE!!! However I’m still a noobious-boobous wanna-be… my time will come. =D
