Sykes’ Saturday Seven: Watch Some Crazy Indians & Warren Buffett Screw Up

Posted by timothysykes on Sat 3rd of May, 2008 11:58:02 AM

Berkshire Hathaway is gonna get taken apart next week as they missed on revenue estimates by $3 billion and took a $1.6 billion loss on derivatives—I like and respect Warren Buffett, but I do look forward to the pain this will cause his sissy value investor cult

This video is tailor made for the narrow-minded value investors out there—while this looks pretty crazy to us, it’s a multi-century tradition older than our entire egotistical culture:

Perruna’s got a cool stock screen

Yahoo! message boards are where the financial plebs gather—I just post there to get hits, to entertain myself and cut through all the BS pumping, see what I mean HERE

Uh oh, little Timmayyy’s got some pretty cool sponsors now:

Speedtrader (better than Speedracer)

GFT (aka great for trading)

Optimus Prime (Yup, the Transformer)

Thinkorswim (broker I use and recommend)

and Thousand Dollar Profits…If you wanna be on this list, all you gotta do is SAY PLEASE!

Iron Man is getting some great reviews…a really sophisticated strategy woulda been to buy MVL ahead of this movie’s opening…NOT! Sure, on a big box office, it could/should surge, but maybe people already anticipated that, and then there’s probly people who anticipated those people anticipating the surge and then there’s people who anticipated the anticipaters to those people who anticipated the surge…get my point?

Everyone and their mother is covering the MSFT/YHOO deal, the latest useless financial media circus. This will be my only link about it cuz a.) it’s meaningless for smaller traders/investors cuz I have no edge whatsoever and neither do you b.) it’s meaningless for consumers cuz both internet properties suck and c.) as THIS article points out in its title, everything’s 50-50, so you might as well just go to the casino and get free drinks.

what does the video have to do with value investing?
  • value investors arent open to other strategies just as we're not open to crazy rituals like that

1.6 billion unrealized loss on european style (I assume naked put) index options Buffett sold with 15-20 year lifespans

in return he received something like 2.5 billion in cash for selling those, which BRK will be able to invest as they see fit for the next 15-20 years

I sure wouldn't want to be the guy(s) buying those from Buffett.

I'm interested in feedback regarding Speedtrader. I'm starting out small, small buys, going long for now and need to keep commissions down so that I can build capital and move into shorting and larger quantities. I paper trade on TOS, to get accustom to their interface, but I'm keeping my long trading on TD for now, lower commissions and I don't need the borrowing availability of TOS (yet).

I'm doing well, but am very interested in cutting my commissions from $20 to possibly $6 (per Speedtrader's banner ad).

Has anyone out there switched from TD Ameritrade to Speedtrader?
