6 Stocks In Play: Why Using Varying Time Frames Is So Crucial

Posted by timothysykes on Tue 8th of Apr, 2008 07:56:14 AM

Here are 6 stocks I’m watching—notice the charts use varying time frames…in order to put recent price action into perspective and to better understand how/if history will repeat and get the appropriate resistance/support levels, you gotta see how the stock fared the last time it surged so quickly/neared such prices…judging by the looks of these setups, probly won’t be any ideal trades today…what’s a stalker to do?

PSTI, ahhh, no shares available to short at Thinkorswim

Everyone’s getting all riled up to short QTWW, but as you see on this chart, it can go a lot further…got 3k shares borrowed just in case

CNEH is a Fous buy pick, I like the successful breakout of $2.5, but not sure how much this’ll run here…my buy point would be if it can break $4.50 on strong volume…ideally gradually…in a few weeks

GEECF still isn’t up enough yet for me to short

I don’t even need to research ENVI, I’ve seen the pattern a million times, classic Pink Sheet getting pumped, only those with balls the size of Tokyo buy shares

UFPT failed to breakout at $8.75, short have rushed in, game still isn’t over, I’d look to buy if the stock ever succeeds

  1. NTRI,PSTI. Up in pre market, especially NTRI

  2. At what price does PSTI become a short? and how do u predetermine that?

  3. Wait til u see the whites of their eyes.

  4. Ju do me a favor and read back through the past 300 blog posts, all your answers are in there, enjoy

  5. oh i hate u.

  6. ask a stupid question get a stupid response

    heads up on AGEN

  7. AGEN worth a short 3.80? quick spike on CNBC

  8. Ah didn’t see you posted it, short at 3.75 covered quickly (I like to lock in quick gains) this one could easily catch momentum for over the 4’s so I’d rather just be in and out

  9. RGEN was a perfect short- at morning spike… sorry for my delay

  10. JESUS, LOOK AT ENVI!

Tim, you called that one pretty well. WISH I HAD SHORTED LIKE YOU SAID!

Yikes, Sykes, that’s some sketchy premonition-like shit you’re having with this micros. My hat off to you!

  11. ASTI is breaking down pretty nice…Down 2 days straight.

  12. If ENVI breaks $2.51 would you shor it?

  13. damn, should have shorted it, need to pull the trigger

  14. couldnt find envi to borrow, but even if i could u dont short after a 20% drop, MMs can easily reverse it

  15. QTWW wish it had spiked more out of open to give us a nice short opportunity on the day.

AGEN Trying to bottom here but it doesn’t want to move towards the upside

And WSCI and VISN both gave the 50 cent on the down side but still nothing really jumping out

  16. Has anyone looked at COCO? Could be a nice 50 cent drop!

  17. Anyone taken a look at RGEN today?

  18. no COCO is a bull flag

  19. yes RGEN would be a good breakout but its not likely

  20. Thanks Tim. That pattern didn’t stick out to me. Question about it,

On the Bull Flag, it has to be a flag on an upward trend. If you pull back to the 200 day mark. The stock is on a down trend, BIG TIME.

So you would still call this a Bull Flag with only a 7 day up trend before the flag?

  21. Anyone trade currency here? Do you Tim?

  22. Any one joined in and caught the bottom when Gro was in the $4 buck range? easy money made

What timezone is this server in? These times are screwing with me and my east-coast-centric brain..

  24. man..ameritrade nothing to short..is ThinkorSwim better to short or all broker will be same on short?

  25. QTWW falling down

  26. 26

Why Scottrade is not letting me buy GRO? When I tried to buy GRO at $5, it says, “Please contact your local branch about placing an order on this security.” It is not a short selling, it is buying!! I don’t get it.

  27. 27

Call them and ask, maybe it’s because it was under $5. If you call they will put it through with only your account number and “i want to buy x shares of GRO”.

  28. SCOTTRADE Are a bunch of Haters__ I got in at 4.40…. then they want to call me an hour later talking about how my margin buying power is over inflated….. when I did not even use margin to purchase the stock….it was my own cash…… so they probably put a block on it.

  29. P.S my RGEN short is working out perfect

  30. Yeah. Looking good for you lmsmith. RGEN just brokedown out of a bearish descending triangle.

  31. 31

    Any opinions on DCTH?

  32. Covered RGEN at $5.95 from entry of 6.56

  33. Hey ViciousChicken - the TIMZONE issue has been fixed. Things fucked up because of the day light savings. The server and posts time should all reflect EST

    Gracias!

    PS- TIMZone, nice touch…

  35. Would PSTI, be a good short now, low volume, afternoon fade, or is it too risky for a end of day spike.

  36. Glad to see that CNEH is a focus buy of yours.. bought this stock at 90 cents (during it’s first breakout move) and didn’t have enough discipline to blow out of the shares when it was about 20% off of its highs. It has been a painful last 3 months (ended up selling some shares at 2 bucks only to buy them back at 2.50), but the I think the fundamentals will eventually drive this higher. I just wished I had traded this better and wasn’t blinded by the Funnymentals.

  37. I think DYII is a definite buy for the short term. Strong momentum and chart. Can be a multi-day runner.

  38. 38

    NCEN…nice

  39. nice RGEN trade

CNEH is a Fous pick, not Focus pick, Fous is another blogger

PSTI, yes can u find shares to short though?

damn NCEN, took u a while, huh?

    dyii boooooooooooooring

  40. Glad RGEN worked out for you, just wish I wasn’t trading a paper money account at the time I saw it pop up

  41. Tim,
Did you have any trade today?

  42. nope, just as i predicted i wouldnt….no ideal setups

  43. Do you think CNEH will continue upwards? It seems to have leveled off, but Stockcharts is showing the volume is still okay (not high, but not low). Clear Station is showing that it is reaching an overbought state.

What do you think Tim? My portfolio is too low to short, so I have to get these guys on the ups. I can’t wait to get it up there so I can start shorting. It seems so much easier to pick those out.

Anyway, from what I am seeing, this could still have some steam to push higher, but I am still pretty new to this. I think I should see how it opens before I make any decisions. If it is up, then I might buy, but if it starts to drop then I will let it be. Should be good to short at that time if I could, right?

    Any thoughts?
