Hot Stocks: 7 Solar Stocks To Day Trade aka How I Will Short Them!
(SOLF)—up 50% in 5 days, solid resistance at $15, but solid earnings today means the short side is limited, although it’s tough to be bullish either…let’s see how the pattern plays out, I’ll update tomorrow

(SOL)—another 50% gainer within a few days, solid earnings gainer today, nice sideways action between $11.50 and $12, that’ll either turn out to be nice support or resistance, tough to be short until that breaks

(AKNS)—now up 75% off its lows, today the shorts got squeezed by a magazine article mention, now this is some news to short into—financial journalism is a total joke! Nice short into resistance at $8

(ASTI)—up nearly 100% now, got a nice investment form blah blah blah today, squeezed the shorts…until the last hour. Ideally it bounces tomorrow, but either late tomorrow or Monday, it’ll be a great short when it goes negative under $14

(CSUN)—put in a nice bottom just over $6, but the strongest solar rally and it only goes up $1, P A T H E T I C…not volatile enough for me

(SPIR)—up 60% off panic selling—in actuality, up 30% off solid sideways price action at $12…much less liquid than these other guys, resistance at $18, not sure it’s worth touching either way here

(JASO)—the realest of all these companies, up 4 days in a row, but only 20% (sucks to be real, seriously!) (volatility-wise) I’ll leave it alone, I prefer fake/fraudulent/hype-filled stocks, say hello to the social security-earning investors for me!

EMKR: Insider buying reported today
March 28, 2008
EMKR was recently mentioned negatively by StockLemon aka http://www.citronresearch.com/. The stock has taken a beating in the past few days. Because of CitronResearch’s report the stock likely has developed a big recent short interest.
Late in the day today, a director reported a big insider buying. http://finance.yahoo.com/q/it?s=EMKR
RUSSELL THOMAS
Director 59,200 Direct Purchase at $5.95 per share. $352,240
That is a big insider buy and will *likely* cause some shorts to cover. So EMKR will likely be a speculative ultra short term long trade. Longs will have more ammo especially if more insider buying gets reported. The stock is extremely volatile of late so be careful with your trades.
Disclosure: I have no EMKR shares and likely won’t trade it as I don’t quite understand the fundies. EMKR is touted of late as a solar play. So it is a volatile stock, but the odds look to be in favor of a short term long trade.

Booo Tim-hater. Stop wasting your life tearing him down. First of all, he’s not hurting anyone. Second, ya he’s failed before, but Tim doesn’t give up. And third, he’s just out there trying to have fun. SO please, find something else to do with your time.

CRUS: Gets an upgrade
March 28, 2008
1)Today, CRUS gets an upgrade to BUY from Thomas Weisel.
Thomas Weisel upgraded shares as they believe Wolfson Microelectronics’ contract bid loss with a major tier-1 customer signals potential share gain for CRUS in the portable media player segment. They raised their target to $8.00 from $5.50 on the news
2)Yesterday, Jefferies came out with following report on CRUS.
After Wolfson said its audio solution will not be used in a nexgen Tier I portable audio player expected to be released in Q3, Jefferies’ checks suggest CRUS likely won the audio sockets in the nexgen Apple iPod nano and touch. They estimate this opportunity conservatively adds $10M-15M in incremental revenue for 2H08. Shares remain Buy rated
Story: CRUS is a value stock with no debt and has almost 3$ per share in cash. Stock traded down to 4$ earlier this year as it slightly missed revenues & options backdating issue was on overhang. However, despite tough market conditions, stock is now in a strong uptrend likely because :
1) Company is executing aggressively on its announced 150m$ share buyback.
http://blogs.barrons.com/techt.....od=BOLBlog
2)Options backdating issue was resolved without any penalties.
http://blogs.barrons.com/techt.....hoobarrons
3)Insiders bought a boat load of stock.
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/it?s=CRUS
4)Famed investor George Soros took a big position in CRUS.
http://seekingalpha.com/articl.....rrus-logic
Recommended Action: Add CRUS to your watchlist and trade on any pullbacks.

reshort REED at $4.50-ish, too tough to stay green/go up big on the 3rd day of a big runup, fading volume, big sellers all above…Friday squeeze still possible, but I like my chances here for a 1-2 day hold

WH - three day double top
33timsykes
March 28th, 2008 at 9:46 am

March 28th, 2008 at 10:41 am
This is cut and paste off my fav site (execpt your timmy, your the best): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daytrading
“Pattern day trader is a term defined by the SEC to describe any trader who buys and sells a particular security in the same trading day (day trades), and does this four or more times in any five consecutive business day period. A pattern day trader is subject to special rules. The main rule being that in order to engage in pattern day trading the trader must maintain an equity balance of at least $25,000 in a margin account”
Really what this means is, until you have 25K you can not buy and sell stocks the same day as many times as you want…or your account will be freezed!
44tyler
March 28th, 2008 at 10:46 am
would you re-short REED again if it spikes a little more or would you not touch this stock again.
45Sequoia
March 28th, 2008 at 10:50 am
Thanks Gary !!!
That rule is amazing. Here in France we can do whatever we want. And I read Tim saying that he was borrowing titles to short them later in the day. In France we have a list of about 170 stocks which are authorized to shorting. Yes, that’s a “short” list to short :-)
Very instructive here about trading the US market.
PS : ordered my Tim Sykes Hedge Fund book this morning on Amazon.

Tim,
How come you don’t get in trouble for breaking the rule? I don’t know how many times you’ve been breaking that rule, man. I’m not hating but I just don’t understand how the rule doesn’t apply to you
