Wednesdays Potential Plays

Oil keeps going higher and so do the stock prices of these solar plays—plays like First Solar (Nasdaq: FSLR ) up $20 to $169, SunPower (Nasdaq: SPWR ) up $20 to $150 and Suntech Power (Nasdaq: STP) up $8 to $65. They could all keep moving higher (odds are defin
itely in their favor), but they’re are all too expensive for TIM.
Instead, I’m looking at smaller, lower priced solar plays that haven’t performed as well, but could – no matter if their businesses aren’t as booming. Remember – in certain instances, lesser quality companies can rise more quickly.
That brings us to Evergreen Solar (Nasdaq: ESLR), a solar play with a new technology that won’t be ready for production until 2009. Yeah, speculative to the max, but this speculative play just broke out to a new year high today, finishing up $1.33 to $13.63, breaking its previous high of $13.21 on strong volume of 7 million shares. I’ll be looking to buy, but I don’t trust this kind of play so I won’t chase it. No way to determine how exactly it will trade, but it looks like there will be early morning strength, making me wish I’d bought for the gap-up. Oh well. (Didn’t want to because I have an Oprah and Friends Radio Interview at 11am tomorrow—TIM is all well and good, but I still gotta pay my bills and promote my book!)
And, you can’t forget Worldwater & Solar Technologies (OTCBB: WWAT), another speculative solar play that is close to breaking out. They’ve been putting out PRs like crazy and have been mentioned in dozens of Penny Stock newsletters. Even though I don’t believe in their technology, I believe in hype and I’ll buy this stock if it breaks out at $2.52—so far this stock has moved very gradually, we’ll see if it’ll continue.
A maker of a much more boring technology—high-end wall systems—China Architectural Engineering (AMEX: RCH), has had a wild ride, debuting on the AMEX at $5, surging to $25 and falling right back down to single digits all during the month of October. Now it’s jumped 25% to $10.30 in one day. This is not tiny company as its marketcap is $522 million—I’ll be looking to short into further strength.
Patriot Scientific (OTCBB: PTSC), a $223 million penny stock patent play (they’re suing everyone, difficult to tell if they have a case) has been rising on rumors of a court decision. It’s on my watch list, as it’s proven in the past that can really fly with enough trading volume.
China Recycling Energy (OTCBB: CREG)—I have no idea what this $25 million Chinese company does (good thing TheStockMasters do!), all they have are a few filings and yet their stock has risen from 25 cents to $1.75 in a month or so. It’s on my watchlist and I’m looking to buy. No, I’m not crazy, it’s a China energy play aka exponential moves are not just possible, they’re probable
None of these setups are very strong and my Oprah interview screws up my trading schedule so I’m guessing it’ll be a slow trading day. Over the weekend, I’ll go into the details of how I find all these stocks.
Abnegation: TIM, Timothy Sykes, and the Easter Bunny have no positions in any of these stocks
Please note that due to factors including low market capitalization and/or insufficient public float, we consider some of these stocks to be small-cap stocks. You should be aware that such stocks are subject to more risk than stocks of larger companies, including greater volatility, lower liquidity and less publicly available information, and that postings such as this one can have an effect on their stock prices.
